Microsoft Flight

In an interview on Tuesday, Unangst said that with the rise of social gaming, online services, and cloud computing, Microsoft saw an opportunity to bring back some classics.

I hold little hope at this point. They can still crap things by; make it for the Xbox only, or the only way you can use the multi-player function is by subscribing to Microsoft's obscure competitor to Facebook.

I'm dubious anytime someone refers to "the cloud."

Yeah, just looking at the picture in the article I sort of get the feeling that this is going to simply be Pilotwings 2011 by Microsoft. You know the type...press A to go faster B to slow down and try to fly through all the rings.

Just a reminder of where we're coming from... This is Flight Simulator 1 :

A flight sim game on the Xbox would die a quick, cash bleeding death. PC is the only way to go on this, and even then you'll be right back to upgrading your PC every time a new flight sim comes out. :) I don't play flight sim anymore (it's as real as it gets at work, I don't need it at home), but it got me into this whole thing, so I'd like to see it continue. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't screw it up. Like everyone else, I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I'm still waiting for them to build a computer that can run FSX.

:rotfl: That's what I was going to say! Maybe in 20 years I'll have a machine that can run this new one. FSX runs kind of slow on my machine and it's up to snuff on 3D benchmarks, it's a nice machine and a nice video card, etc. And FSX is years old!

No one pushes a platform like this team. They're up there with the Crysis team in my book as far as pushing the graphics envelope. Checkout pictures of FSX in HD with something like REX doing the weather and terrain. It looks almost real.

That's why i never really switched to X. I could run better graphics at lower higher frame rates on fs9 than I could with X.

Pictured below is Flight Simulator 2. Flight Simulator 1 was a black and white with stick graphics. Flight Sim 2 was a huge improvement.

Wow, I just did some more reading, so what is pictured below could possibly be Flight Simulator 2.0 from Microsoft. Flight Simulator 1.0 was monochrome. Still below looks a lot like the Apple version 2 from SubLogic. Yes I am a nerd.

OK, indeed that is the Microsoft version, what givs it away is the curved panel on the left corner, Apple was straight.

Yea!! I've never bought FSX because I know I would get annoyed with having slow frame rates and having to turn some of the stuff down which makes FSX so great in the first place.

Hopefully this Xmas I'll treat myself to a machine that can run FSX to the max....probably just to have it be outdated again within a month thereafter lol

On the topic though, I'm really hoping they aren't making this more arcade like. The pathetic teaser video shows nothing of flight dynamics, but damn the graphics look amazing.

Probably look like this:

I am pretty sure from my readings and stuff FSX is kind of inefficiently programmed. I think they may be able to improve performance some with Flight.
