Had to report two to the FSDO

Oh, and I just remembered. We started a push back in the 727 with the aft stairs still DOWN. Damn that was an ugly sound. (the mechanics checked it and we just shined the skin a bit. The FE had said "Ready to go" and I didn't verify it. He bought drinks that night.) Oh.. and there was the time the copilot said we were ready to fire the start cartridge on the KC-135 just before the crew chief got the intake cover out. That was about a 20ft flame when that one started. And then there was the time I flamed 'em both out trying to get to 55,000 in the -38..

Hey, confession IS good for the soul!

I've got some stories in my young career, but I'm going to save them for the book. You can get a way with a lot when you're the only one sitting up front. I'm going to miss that aspect of this flying the most when I move on.:D

Wow! You sure have a way of getting on folks' wrong side if you previously had to lie your way out of getting in trouble for all of those boners.

For what its worth, if I were in the OPs shoes and the guys apologized and admitted to what they had done, I would have just chased them off with a warning. But if they lied to me and said they were with a government department which they weren't, damn right I'd report them.

Yes, yes and yes!! That is the whole picture. Not that they landed off field (even private property), but then had a lame lie about why they did it. Sorry guys, I don't want thoes type of folks flying around or with me.

Sorry I let this go as long as I could, but it's getting out of control.

What if I said that I don't want people flying around me that don't check their fuel status and then have to dead stick an airplane into the ground endangering everyone around them. Should I have printed out your thread and sent it into the FSDO and let them decide a better course of action?

Or lie about the reason for the engine failure a couple posts down.

Now before you guys get any ideas I would never do such a thing, but I'm just saying using this logic.

Is it just me, or is it just the guys without much industry experience saying they'd burn them at the stake and let God sort 'em out?

Not saying I'm high-time or have tons of industry experience (I don't), but one thing I've learned about this career so far is that you all stick together. Fellow pilots are your brothers/sisters, even if the only common bond is a blue/green plastic card.

What's in it for you if you have that outlook? Well, each and every pilot you run into in this business may very well help you open doors to better opportunities. When I was furloughed from 121, I was able to walk from that job into my present job because of a former student of mine who happened to end up working side by side with Pilot Recruitment.

In initial groundschool for that same job, I happened to meet a laid-off ATA L1011 pilot who'd run into some tough luck himself. I made friends with him during training and while I was flying the line. He was able to move off to a good ACMI job last year. Well, because I happened to keep a bit of contact with him off and on, guess what? I start groundschool on the 757/767 next month.

This industry is small. Everything and everyone is intertwined. Don't burn bridges. Don't piss people off. It will come back to you. We're all only a couple degrees separation from each other, if that.

I need to confess. I have also filed an ASRS.
I have flown faster than 200kts below a class B
I have on occasion deviated my my clearance speed by more than 10kts
I have used more than standard rate turn with passengers on board.
I have landed out of an unstable approach.
I have not always calculated wt/bal and numbers for actual conditions for takeoff and
landing.
I have gone to a destination without checking notams just prior to departure.
I have failed to contact tower when passing over the outer marker.
I have occasionally used non-standard phraseology on the radio
I have flown in more than 60deg of bank without wearing a parachute
I have flown without putting the latest Jepp revision in the binder ( I did have the latest. it was just not filed)

And I am truly SORRY.
Wow. Just, wow. It's one thing to do all of those things, its another to admit it on a public forum.

Your still here? Really man. I pretty sure he meant it in somewhat of a sarcastic nature. His experience level in aviation surpasses yours by light years. Pay attention or roll out. Hows the 777 by the way?:rotfl:

Very well said.

Listen up troll,

Since you've not been around here all that long, here's a free education:

OrangeAnchor is a former military pilot, he flew for the original Piedmont Airlines (not the regional arm of US Airways) and then for US Airways after they bought out Piedmont.

He's been around JC long enough to have a helluva lot of respect and has a good many stories to share about gaining experience.

So to say/allude that he's a reckless and unsafe pilot...well that's what we call "hogwash" where I come from.

I didnt lie. . . I told it how it was. . . Dont burn me at the stake . . . I've admitted that I was complicent and allowed a fuel tank to run low. . . READ ALL MY POST PLEASE BEFORE YOU TRY TO BURN ME HERE!!!

ALSO, I had my 709 with the FSDO! Got busted, I learned, I've told how dumb I was, and I've moved on!

I'm not trying to burn you at the stake Jerry, I'm trying to prove a point. I just don't feel that you have any position in this thread to be speaking about what others do and how to handle a situation like this.

Well its not like Jerry ever said how dare the FAA give me a 709 or how dare they report me to the FAA, so IMHO he can still argue his position with a clear conscience. I think it is wrong, but it isn't hypocritical.

I don't think OrangeAnchor is to concerned about what this kid thinks of him. I know I wouldn't if I was in his position.

I don't doubt that, I just thought our resident 777(flight sim) expert/pilot would want to know who he's talking to. :)

More than likely positions are set and opinions fixed. I am still a bit bewildered by the dichotomy in a previous thread where a pilot was reported to his superiors and this thread.

New word for me! Thanks!

di·chot·o·my (d-kt-m)
n. pl. di·chot·o·mies
1. Division into two usually contradictory parts or opinions: "the dichotomy of the one and the many" (Louis Auchincloss).
2. Astronomy The phase of the moon, Mercury, or Venus when half of the disk is illuminated.
3. Botany Branching characterized by successive forking into two approximately equal divisions.

If he then goes after them. . .well. . dusch bag alert. . . not cool, take away his cool kid card, and send him packing!!!

Just my Two cents . . .
BTW, I have bad spelling. . I'm a pilot, get over it!!!!

Well, I was going to show you the correct spelling of the misspelled word dusch, but apparently Doug's fancy smancy filter doesn't want me to do that... Blame Doug. lol

Wow. Just, wow. It's one thing to do all of those things, its another to admit it on a public forum.

Wow. Just, wow. And who are you? Oh wait, nevermind, your username "TwilightFan" tells me all I want to know.

I'm not trying to burn you at the stake Jerry, I'm trying to prove a point. I just don't feel that you have any position in this thread to be speaking about what others do and how to handle a situation like this.

Oh come on jhugz, don't join the group of people that think one needs a certain amount of hours or ratings to be entitled to an opinion. Everybody can have their own opinion, and by reading the thread, many people have different and varying opinions. I think Jerry has enough experience and years under his belt to be entitled to his own opinion.

I don't think OrangeAnchor is to concerned about what this kid thinks of him. I know I wouldn't if I was in his position.

No, especially with a name like TwilightFan.
