Had to report two to the FSDO

The attitude that has developed on this forum regarding obvious violations of the FAR's is disturbing at best.

Too, the attitude that has developed on this forum of everyone feeling they need to rat everyone and anyone out for anything, real or perceived, is disturbing at best too.

More astounding is people trying to do a bait and switch comparing operations that don't have wheels with operations such as the one this thread is about, is, again, astounding.

Or said more simply, my wife's signature line sums things up well.

I think its a valid point. How is landing off field on wheels any more different or dangerous than landing off field on water?

Everyone? You're part of this forum, no? :D

No, I mean people on here who have been feeling the need to have to report everything they see to the FSDO, rather than just minding their business in most situations.

Glad to see a punitive and blame culture exists here. Nail 'em. We know people make mistakes and when confronted they will more than likely NOT tell the truth when facing possible punitive consequences. Most of us would have done the same thing... lied about what we were doing.

What if? Shoulda.. coulda... woulda.. has nothing to do with the actual event. No one WAS HURT. Nothing was damaged. Nothing was learned. Now the stage is set, the script more than likely written and the players now only have to utter their lines before the curtain comes down.

And even if the landings were intentional and they did know, was it sufficient to call the FSDO? What if someone had just said, "You guys landed at a closed field. Intentional or not.. DON"T DO IT AGAIN." use it as a learning moment.

Worse, Acadia, most disappointing for you to try and wash your hands by saying you only guided someone through the process. All this after the big dust up about Calcapt. No lessons learned here.. move along.

I must have missed those threads.

You did. There have been numerous ones of differing situations where there seems to be a growing attitude of people wanting to be the airborne police. Pattern ops is one that comes to mind....

That was the reason for my third 709 ride, now i remember!

Should have asked them for their OAS cards.... Need one to do any flying for the forest service... Also should have been easy enough to verify by contacting the forest service directly.

If I happened across some planes landing off field, as long as they were not endangering anyone I would probably have a friendly conversation with them. The thought of reporting it would never cross my mind. .

By friendly conversation, do you mean "Hi, how you doing today?" If that, then I can understand. If anything but that, I would wonder why?

Cowardly liars? Because going straight to the FSDO instead of taking care of something yourself is a true mark of heroism?

So now you think pilots should also be vigilantes? See, I can play the leap of logic game too.

I am not washing my hands of it at all. That is why I posted it here, and I clearly stated that I directed my coworker to make the call. Again, my duty is to my employer and it would be negligent for us not to report the incident.
