Trim Tab?

Thanks!

+2 for usage of the word Ottoman without actually referring to furniture accoutrement or former Turkish dynasties!

A good show old chap!

Since doing it on both sides would increase weight. I would theorize that if you had to choose you would want it on the right side as it would produce drag on the right side to help offset left turning tendencies, especially when deflected more as it would be at low airspeeds.

More than likely though, the weight is the major issue and either side would be fine as it's not a lot of drag. Every bit does add up though.

I'm going to go with this answer... thanks ! :)

From someone I consider a pretty knowledgeable source, right side or left side was luck of the draw on that design day. I doubt "left turning tendencies" were a deciding factor. Aren't there "right turning tendencies" as well? (I know, not on take off but ...) ;)

The engineer who designed the airplane was right handed, and it was easier for him to draw the blueprint on that side.
