flight express??

Well I just got the e-mail inviting me to the June 21st class, but I cant go because i'm getting married July 10th! The guy told me he would let me know when they started another class so hopefully the hiring continues. I thought maybe I could finish up in time but he said it would be better to wait. Does anyone on here know when the previous class started? Maybe that will give an indication on how often they class up. Anyway, I might need some of yall with the inside scoop to give me a heads up on the classes in about a month or two if all goes well.

^^ did you have to interview in person, or did they just screen you via the phone or email??

You submit your application on their website. They'll e-mail you a yes or nothing. The "interview" is a simulator evaluation, then the time you're in class is all evaluation for the job.

Comsta, that sucks that you had to pass on your class slot. Where do you flight instruct in Mobile?

I did IFS at Bayminette for a couple of years but was let go in may of 09. Then I instructed at a start up flight school in Gulf Shores untill it went TU a few months later. Now I instruct out of Foley. This is all across the Bay from Mobile by the way in Baldwin County.

Bumping this again...Anyone know if they are running August & September classes? I imagine they must be hiring more if everyone else is...

Last I heard was they filled up classes for July and beg. Aug. So yes they are hiring, but guess you just have to get in line. That is crazy to say since it is a 210 and Flight Express

A friend of mine who has something like 9k hours working for them sent in a resume and talked to the DO and was told to "keep in touch". I wouldn't hold your breath.

And yes, FLXers, the infamous Jayrooom may be headed back your way, with any luck. I hope he is, and you should too, but guard your livers and don't buy in to his European propoganda about how great U2 is.

I would assume that they will have quite a bit of movement soon since hiring has picked up elsewhere. Unless they have a lot of "lifers".

There are maybe 3 "lifers" at that company, unless things have changed. And one of those 3 I'm not so sure about. That said, you could do a lot worse. They treated me fairly, told me what to expect honestly, and held to their word scrupulously. If that sounds like what you'd naturally expect, walk a few more miles.

Well... If you are looking to get the ADS base we are currently slightly overstaffed here. It has become a somewhat senior base and not much movement has happened here the last few months. That being said, if something else opens up for me I'll be out of here. I have been treated very well here the last year and a half and do not have any complaints, I just need to advance in my career a little otherwise I might become a lifer.

Thanks for the info. How is their maintenance though? There was that Tampa crash recently...any idea what happened there?

Didn't read about the latest thing. Of the crashes I can remember from when I was doing research on the company, there was one not long before I was hired that involved a guy taking off in to "medium-IFR", apparently (apparently, who knows) losing control, and crashing. A couple of engine failures over maybe 5 years. And a couple of dudes running out of gas because they were dumb.

My experience with maintenance was good. The guys at CPS, at least, know the 210 very, very well. They're Characters, but they know how to fix 520s, 550s, and the 210 airframe like they were born to it because they've been doing it for God knows how long. Avionics were sometimes a little dicier, but as far as the airframe and powerplant goes, I would fly in any weather (and did) with those guys wrenching on the plane.

I only had two "uhoh" moment working there (as far as the equipment goes), and those were totally unforseeable. This is in what, about 2500 hours.

That particular segment of the industry is extremely dangerous, at least relatively speaking. Don't kid yourself about that. But if you're going to do it, I think FLX is one of the "safer" places to do it. And if that's not enough, you still get your own personalized wheelbarrow in which to carry your balls. The last part was a lie. Sadly.

So where are the current openings right now? Where might a new-hire expect to be place? How long on average does it take to bid out of base to another base?

They aren't finished investigating yet, but the suspicion is that it was a manufacturing defect in the crankshaft.

So far, any little thing I've squawked, they've fixed with pretty much no discussion.
