Seriously?! An hour + taxiing in JFK?

I've been following the 744 DL JFK-TLV in the last few weeks, and it seems that 80% of the flights taxi for over an hour in JFK before take off. What the hell is happening in JFK?

Construction was going on at one point on the runways.

Have you ever been to JFK?

Even without construction an hour + taxi is not unusual depending on the time of day...

Just ask Dough, he's still based there...

An hour doesn't sound too bad. I once rode BUF-JFK on an RJ. A quick 45 minutes flight time. Took over 2 hours to park at the gate AFTER landing in JFK.

Yes, I have...and I am aware of this #$%^& airport, but an hour and a half, or 1.4?! This is insane.
And I thought they were suppose to be finishing with the runway construction by now.

Edit: And why can I not add a reply with a quote in Firefox?

So... you've answered your own question...

Oh hell, an hour taxi in JFK is a good thing! :)

Seriously, it regularly gets a lot worse.

To be very honest, I stopped trying to figure it out.

I remember once in 2007 being told my metering to anticipate a "220 minute taxi." Needless to say the flight was cancelled...

According to airnav the Port Authority operates an FBO at JFK. Also, I thought I read an article somewhere that the runway construction was done now?

Kinda... The runway is open again but there's a lot of construction going on on the departure end of 31L

Hell, I remember it taking an hour to taxi out of JFK when I was based out there in the summer of '02. Nothing new!

I was just in and out of there last night. I usually try to avoid JFK but like a bad case of skin rash it keeps showing up on my schedule! An hour delay...that's nothing there! SOP around that place! They generally operate on the 1-2-3 rule....1 cloud, 2 rain drops...3 hr delay!!;)

It's a mystery to me how JetBlue maintains any type of schedule outa there!:dunno:

No, but you can be damn sure Southwest will be asking for intersection departures to speed things up if/when they start going in there.

Hell yeah! Better to take an initiative to get people where they're paying to go, right? :rawk:

Kinda sucks when the feds/locals dork up construction so much that it causes cancellations and delays, and then Congress wants to intervene. Why doesn't the FAA ever get called on the carpet for their wonderful "solutions"?

Kinda like they do now @ LGA and ground tells em to get back in line and wait their turn?
