Flight Express Emergency Landing Tampa

Finding a place to ditch at night is a task. Glad he was uninjured.
 
So, fly to towards dark space hoping you land in a field (and not trees), or go towards lights and hope you find a highway and not the side of a building?

or the old "Just before you land, turn on your landing light. If you like what you see, go ahead and land. If you don't like what you see, turn off the light."

I noticed it was at 8:40pm. Here in Houston anyway there is still plenty of light to find a good place to land.
 
I'm just curious why he didn't put the landing gear down and how did a small fuel leak lead to him making an emergency landing in a field? Forgive me for my lack of knowledge but I'm a little confused. Regardless, glad to see he landed safely :clap:

If i know im going to putting a retract down on a field, and im not sure what the condition is, im leaving the gear up, Especially if its been raining. Gear up damage is minimal compared to sticking your nose wheel in the mud or a hole and flipping the plane.

Also, he might not of had the time.

Also Also, a football field is all of 300ft. Think you can skid to a stop quicker than rolling to one.

x2, did the engine quit? I don't see how having a 'small fuel leak' means I need to put down in a football field.

It depends on where the leak is. Judging by the prop, I'd say the eng wasn't turning when he landed. Anyone have an N number? It looks familiar.
 
Hmm Cessna 210? Lemme guess. The gear didnt retract. Is it just me or do 210s seem to be plagued with problems? I understand parts for that airplane are hard to come by and very expensive.
 
Sheeeesh! First an alligator AND NOW AN AIRPLANE FALLING OUT OF THE SKY! You couldn't pay me to move to Tampa!:eek:
