ASA Recalls All?

Hate to break up the "fun" fest that this has been, but here's the "official" word from Horizon.

Horizon and ASA are in talks for 4 CRJ 700's to be leased from Horizon to ASA.

However, the deal has not been finalized...so as of right now, none of the Horizon CRJ's will be going to ASA.

Right now I'm aiming to move on, but at the end of my career for whatever reason I'm still at Atlantic Southeast, I would in no way consider myself a total failure. Everybody's situation is different. Our COO has been at ASA/Skywest for many many years. Highly doubt he misses out on being at the majors. Whatever happens in the future, furlough included, I know I can make the best out of that situation. Thats why Im always optimistic, not because of a "it won't be me" attitude.

Very well.

Leased huh?

And what does Horizon plan to do (if the lease agreement is finalized) with these aircraft when the lease expires?

Is this a lease to own situation like Aarons Rental? :)

Just seems clear that Horizon has no real purpose to keeping the remaining CRJ-700s as they transition to an all turboprop fleet.

Why lease when you can sell? (From Horizon's point of view - I know why ASA doesn't want to commit to buying)

Not sure if this is allowed, but also on topic.... :D

As of today, of the 56 notices, 35 accepted and 12 of us bypassed. Not sure if they'll send out more notices if they don't get their 42.

I'm not really sure what the Error Groups plan is for the CRJ.

I know that ones in the fleet are not leased and are some of the first 700's built (Horizon was a launch customer).

Your guess is as good as mine on that one though!

This was the ORIGINAL topic before people started going off on their own tangents.

Thanks for the update!

I'm guessing it's the same reason why don't sell the DHC-200 that CommutAir is leasing. They just can't find buyers at the right price. All 15ish -200's are Horizon Airplanes that are being leased.

Horizon Air has been a profitable and excellent performer for Alaska Air Group for several years. With Horizon going ahead with an all Q400 fleet and having extra 700s sitting around, hopefully Skywest Inc will look longer term and not lease 700s from Horizon, but purchase Horizon Air, along with a long term contract for Alaska Airlines flying.

By selling off Horizon Alaska Airlines will get a nice infusion of cash to look even better to potential merger partners. Skywest Inc will get a profitable and technologically advanced carrier in Horizon, whose Q400s will put Skywest Inc in an excellent position for 50 seater replacement contracts. And Inc can probably find somewhere in the Skywest Inc portfolio to place Horizon's 15ish 700s.

You heard it here first! :sarcasm:

Yeah....cause Skywest Inc wants ANOTHER unionized carrier to deal with running separately. They'd be juggling their own non-union guys, ALPA and then the IBT with Horizon. Sounds like a management nightmare if you ask me.

That will happen when Hell freezes over bud...

Horizon is very profitable and for a few years kept the Error Group in the black. Horizon is one of the last true regional carriers, Skywest would ruin Horizon if they were to ever be bought out.

Not to mention the Teamsters would be out in force pushing for a Skywest union.

More likely Alaska would be bought out and Horizon retained by the Air Group. Neither is going to happen anytime soon as it is, but if you're going to dream I suppose you ought to dream big...

Jesus, don't give them any ideas. Buy out Alaska, then make Skywest Republic 2.0? Yeah, that's the LAST thing we need. I can already see the glazed eyes of all the shiny jet guys over there when they find out they could fly a 737. Nevermind the fact it's for peanuts, d00d! It's a 737!!!

I should have been more specific, I was meaning Alaska being bought out by another major (Delta anyone?), rather than a regional. Skywest would have a much harder time with the Alaska ALPA than Horizon Teamsters.

Personally I don't see either being bought out by anyone. We need major airline jobs and Horizon payscales at the regional level.

Looks like 40 accepted and 16 bypassed. Hopefully management sends out at least two more letters and a couple of the February furloughs can come back!

If the company isn't going to provide lodging for furloughs and you need a place to stay let me know. Send me a PM. The wife grew up in an Air Force family and I'm just a damn nice guy (haha) and we'd love to help out if we can.

Congrats to those coming back.

Here's a new twist. The 4 700s coming to Atlantic Southeast are former Skywest. 609SK,611SK,613SK,614SK. Info found on FAA N Number Registry.

Skywest lack of staffing, and ASA being fat??? If so bravo Skywest for looking out for their whole pilot group.

According to DD (who apparently talked to SH about it), looks like only 40 will be recalled. Since only 40 of 56 accepted. Such BS. I'm convinced they use a magic 8 ball over in A-Tech to determine their staffing needs.
