There are plenty of, well paying, jobs in GFK. They require you to do some work though. You can drive beet trucks, a few construction testing outfits in town, lots of farms around that need hired hands, UPS and FedEx usually have openings for package sorters, truck loaders, etc.
i wouldnt say its so cheap. expect the quality of accommodations to be WAY less than you are used to. in austin tx i was paying 750/mo for a 2/2, brand new apartment, nice appliances, great views, etc.... for the same price in gfk youll get a beat up 2/1 with ragged out carpet, disgusting cabinets, small windows, etc etc
IF you can even find an apartment in grand forks. expect all the apartments to be full, all the time, and dont plan on bringing a pet unless youre okay with them being there against your lease terms... i cant think of ANY apartments in gfk that allowed any pets. by far the most pet unfriendly town ive ever seen.
and for jobs, hope you like working at a fast food place or at the mall. because thats all there is!
If I cannot work a solid shift somewhere it is not worth my time, because that schedule pretty much destroys a persons entire day.
If you like having to come in for a couple hours at 6am and then a couple more hours at 6pm on Saturday/Sunday, dumbest work schedule I have ever seen. If I cannot work a solid shift somewhere it is not worth my time, because that schedule pretty much destroys a persons entire day.
Farms are pretty much decommissioned when it is -20 season, and who on earth would subject themselves to summer in ND? I sure would never do it again.
Ughh, Thank friggin goodness I am done with that cesspool, I went home and got a decent paying full time job with only turning in one job application. Perhaps now I will finally be able to realize my dreams, one thing that proved impossible at UND. :bandit:
Think of it this way; the living situation in Grand Forks is about as glamorous as the town![]()
You left UND on your own volition, or mommy and daddy stopped paying the bills? cause its starting to sound more and more the latter...
Really though, all that matters is that I have passion for flying that will never die; just like many of you. :bandit:

Guys come on. Nobody is going to change this kids mind. If we dont respond to him, he wil fade off into history. Cue Challenger to call me a cheerleader. Cue TxAviator and his "Crew" to rip the club scene/job market/weather/restraunts/apartments/city water quality/anything else you can think of in GF. 3.....2.....1.....GO!I think I said this before........Welcome to a university. It doesn't matter the university, none of them care about you unless you give them a bad name. There are just too many students

It's just ND..its a fact of life here, its a weird state...did you hear about that family from Florida that moved to south central ND? They moved here to make good on our state governments promise of cheap land and a job. The whole process went by smoothly without a problem. ND made good on its promise on the government side but what didnt go so well was with the residents. They made the family feel isolated like they didnt belong there. So a couple years later they moved back to Florida. ND likes to complain a lot bla blah but can you blame then, not a lot to do but fun to pick fights with. :rotfl:
