Comair Rumot

Okay, so the latest DCI rumors that's got people freaking out is that Comair is gonna close JFK and open DTW. Date being tossed around is Sept 1st. 'Course that's got all the 9E guys more or less running around like they're on fire.

Any CMR guys heard this one?

Yes, president and director of Flight ops were running around in JFK a few days spreading the DTW base info, but there has not been an official announcement!

Is that a bad or a good thing for 9E guys?

After a few days off....this will be an amusing rumor to hear while working the next few days.

So managers are saying things now to? That’s a new part I’ve not heard.

The rumors I heard last week were:

CVG CRJ700/900 base closing->moving to LGA
JFK CRJ200 base moving/shifting to DTW and/or MSP

Rumor being MSP because no one else has said it...therefore annoucement will be a surprise to throw everyone off....since people are already talking about DTW.

Well, I'm going to wait for the official announcement. I could see a DTW base because of the amount of flying Comair is doing there now. I'm surprised they haven't opened a CR7/9 base in NYC, yet, but according to the rumors the CR7/9s will be going to ASA... err Atlantic Southeast anyway! But what do I know, I'm just another furloughed pilot...

What does a pilot living in NYC raising a family and fairly well established do if the base does move? I know....commute

Is that a bad or a good thing for 9E guys?

DTW is our biggest base, so I'd say "bad." Of course, most of the guys in DTW commute anyway, so who knows. The MSP and MEM guys are the ones with deep routes. MEM guys are waiting for FedEx to hire, and the MSP guys swear it's the best place to live....evah.

And people wonder why I want out of the regional rat race.....

A lot of Freedom's flying had been shifting to DTW lately... so much so that the company had to do illegal force-TDYs (in violation of the contract) to staff it. So if Delta expects to draw down Freedom's flying someone would have to pick it up.

Funny thing, as soon as a fellow crashpad roommate came in, he asked me if i've heard of this very rumor.

lol

Where's H46Bubba when we need him? :)
Deperately trying to leave! DTW base has been planned for some time now, but they've been waiting on word from Southernjets for firm increased DTW flying, which we've received due to F8's departure from DCI. Of course things change day to day, so what's being planned today can be in the circular file cabinet three days from now.:dunno:

Comair president in jfk ops said three days ago flying in jfk will decrease, flying in detroit will increase. Overall the company continues to shrink yearly with 50 seat lease returns.

I'd imagine some of that Freedom flying falls under the 50 seat lift Delta is/was trying to eliminate. I'd be surprised if anyone sees a significant increase in block hours as a result of Freedom leaving the scene, especially after the Summer.

Are the MEM guys really that 'juiced in' with them?

Some of the MEM guys have insane connections with FedEx. There's also a lot of ex-9E guys over there to help pull the strings. Those guys are just waiting for the hiring to start, and they'll probably go right over. There are also one or two that have permanently shot themselves in the foot with FedEx, too.

Agreed, same here at "The Saba"

The never ending DCI shuffle.

Wouldn't it be nice if all the DCI ALPA MECs to get together to find a way to get some stability for our respective work groups?
