Flight crew orders pizza for passengers on diverted flight

Re: Flight crew orders pizza for passengers on diverted flig

Well when the captain and FO make a combined annual salary of $450,000, sparring a few bucks for pizza isn't that tough.

We had a Q400 divert from to IAD after an engine issue. Apparently the Continental staff ordered pizza and drinks for the passengers.

I fly on Southwest once a week, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them, great company, this is the only company I can see doing this sort of thing.

Occasionally I will get a nasty FA with a pretzel up her youknowwhat, but by far the nicest employees, even the ground crews always will wave at me if they see me looking out the window.

....edit: Apparently Continental does too

They make that much? Dang. I guess the co-pilots do pretty well too. They use the Pizza trick all the time. If the FAA is on board, they give them all pizza so their heads are down and they can't see them taxiing at 65 kts. :)

Awesome thing to do in the first place but I'm sure Southwest is LOVING the free (good) publicity.

"I checked the Doppler radar on my Blackberry and noticed a pattern of heavy thunderstorm activity building east of the Front Range, of course, right over DIA!" according to James Mino, a passenger on the flight."

In flight?

I've heard stories that ExpressJet diverted many flights to EFD one day. They ordered pizzas and got delivered through the cockpit windows. They wanted to be payed while on the ground. :)

I witnessed an AA S80 crew do that for their passenges when everyone was diverting to the alternate. We weren't able to make the same arrangements for ours though. It would have had to come out of our pocket.

More likely they simply didn't have air stairs.

Who did the security bomb check on these pizzas and sodas!? People should be outraged that the crew took this kind of action and endangered all these passengers!

Big deal...we ordered lobster for our pax a few weeks ago.

Nah, good on 'em! I always enjoy riding to and from work on SWA. I don't mind picking my seat at all. Sit in the back and it's never an issue.
