need CFI & tailwheel in AUS area quick!

Alright, so, American Flyers in dallas doesnt offer the two week CFI class there :-(

Gonna call pilots choice in GTU today, any suggestions on who to call in san marcos or even other schools at Addison or maybe San Antonio?

I got an email back from Austin Academy of Aviation but they didn't seem to get the picture that i need a CFI done ASAP....

Wright Flyers in San Antonio.

And for the love of God, call Ken Wittikiend at ProMark.

haha ok ill call Ken about the tailwheel stuff. Wright Flyers only advertised the CFI-uber course for a whopping 6 grand on their website... i dont need that, ill call and see what they can do

Call pilots choice and ask for Kyle keeling. Tell hi
jerry told you to call him. Tell him you need your CFI and looking to do it in 10 days or so. Tell him you would like to do it on the side (for him). He'll get you done, and get you done right!!!

And stop reporting posts when you mean to reply to them.......

:)

unfortunately wright flyers didnt have any CFI classes coming up, texas state aviation didnt seem all that optimistic about doing a CFI quickly either.

making the call now!

Kyle said his sched is too full right now but some other lady at the school is going to give me a ring.... we'll see whats up

so far all the calls have ended up as:

"call ATP or AmericanFlyers if you need it that fast"

or

"we dont have a complex plane"

:-\

It took 15 days for the FAA to get back to me on my initial request for the checkride...and that was AFTER my training. It would be nothing short of a miracle to do the training and the checkride all within a month.

so far it looks like

cficare in tomball/n. houston = 10 days CFII/I-addon = $3800

americanflyers in atlanta (my mom lives there...ugh) = $3200

or

pilotschoice in georgetown - though im waiting on a final answer on cost ($400 groundschool one on one + 123$/hr for the RG + $45 hour for flight instruction, abt 10 hrs.... sound reasonable?)

drawbacks are: cficare doesnt start til 2nd week of june and i wanna get started sooner

americanflyers in PDK starts may 27 but id have to stay with my mother and possibly rent a car for 2 weeks and buy a ticket to/from there

pilotschoice, not a "fast track" program per se, possible FSDO ride

......input from you guys?

(yes, i will do my tailwheel funtimes with Ken!)

Ken is a Gold Seal CFI and I think he won a couple of awards as a CFI in the last year or so. Here's the other thing: at one time, he was looking for career-minded CFIs. He was willing to pay a very livable wage to a CFI who was interested in TEACHING. I know he has a couple CFIs right now, but I don't know his hiring status.

He could probably hook you up with a complex. I can't remember for sure, but I think he's got access to a Bonanza for the complex stuff.

right i understand he's a great guy and came off as such on the phone, im not looking to actually work as a CFI, i just need it to satisfy an insurance requirement for a job that has already been offered to me, conditional on getting my CFI asap. so i need a quick ticket type place.

Yeah...the thing about that though is that whoever issues you that CFI should make sure that some day, if you decide to instruct, that you actually know what you're doing. And that takes a while...if its done right.

+1

If you're just looking for a certificate in your pocket then head to a pilot factory. It will get you there quickest and cheapest.

Correction; Eric at Texas State called and got the picture, said we can crank through it pretty quick. suggested doing the basic flying stuff in a cessna then just practicing maneuvers prior to the checkride in the arrow to save cash (good idea!).

He also had a good game plan for self-study materials and so forth.

Thanks for all the info everyone! I'll let yall know how it goes.
