"hiring freeze" news....

"Background; after the 1981 controller strike, FAA screened candidates primarily using a 9-week training course taught at the FAA Academy. The program PROVIDED HIGHLY EFFECTIVE at identifying candidates’ potential abilities—with only a 57-percent pass rate for the 27,925 controller candidates screened between 1981 and 1992."

the first thing is to change the FFA puppy mill in OKC and make it a real screen and get rid of that 45 % dead weight that got through from 2006 on.a 3% washout rate is a joke, how much more money do you spend on someone who trains for years is sent some where else for a couple more years before being washed out for good ,or pushing someone who isnt good into a checkout and hopeing they dont kill someone.and dont get me started on the FFA sending nubees to lvl 4 and 5 FACs.

I agree completely. I know I'm still in training, but I agree that the Academy is a joke. They passed people in my class that were some of the stupidest people I've ever met. I think they should make okc much harder to weed out the crap

This article was emailed to me today by the FAA...don't expect any more PUBNAT's.....

http://avstop.com/news_april_2010/faa_hiring_practices_for_air_traffic_controllers_in_question.htm

Let's hope that they'll get VRA's prioritized right as well. It sounds like a ton of them may've been passed over in favor of CTI and OTS at the last selection panels. That's insane.

Funny that the FAA sent you this from an outside news source instead of just explaining it themselves.

Actually meant NATCA sent it to me. Not the FAA. And I think they are gonna stop OTS completely, and go with ex-military and cti only from now on

Common sense=not that common

-one of the lucky ones who made it through Lvl 12 training as a first facility. (I am totally on side that new hires have no business being in level 11 and 12 terminal facilities despite the fact I made it)

Shoot... that's been in the cards for a while... although I'm sure some people have had their fingers in their ears about it. Glad I squeaked in when I did. Er, halfway in.

God, I hope this doesn't include people who already have their TOL.

Nah. HR's said a few times that if you've got a TOL, you're good to go. Just a question of when, not if.

I have yet to hear the FAA contact me/us as applicants directly. The best I got was "you may or may not be contacted..." The worst I got was "Another candidate has been selected".

Same here. Overall, I think my class was pretty good, the one person I knew didn't have any business being there in the first place got fired, but there were still a few struggling with some of the basics going into the final few problems before PV. Some of the same people had 2-3 flashers on PV and yet they still passed them.

Just my own opinion, but I didn't think the PV was all that difficult, assuming you know what you're doing.

I also think the pv was a complete joke. I was actually insulted how easy they made it. OKC is designed to allow nearly everyone to pass. They should make okc much harder

Why? It costs thousands to screen and train a new applicant after one has washed out. I don't think any planes are dropping from the sky because OKC is too easy.

It costs a lot more money to have a trainee sit around for months waiting to be trained, then go through another 4 months of training, then to fail out during OJT....better to wash out the people who aren't that good in OKC

you mean yet? so how long have you been in atc to make a comment like that.
