I would like some extra cash to finish my PPL. (I am 7 hrs short) I would like to help people around there hangars or wash their plane or heck just meet new people and learn a thing or two. How do I go about this endeavor? Is it polite to go up to someone in their hangar and explain my situation and ask if they need help with anything? Also do people who operate their own jets, do they have flight attendants? Do people ever pay a little sum of money for doing stuff in the back or am i just sounding stupid now?

I know a kid that earned enough money in 2 summers mowing and taking care of lawns to fully pay for his private through CFI at an FBO. Good money in mowing rich peoples lawn.

I don't disagree with that at all. Any other ideas? One down, more to go.

Ask your flight school if for every plane you wash they will give you one hour flight time for free.
I am already doing this however, Their rule is you have to wash the dirtiest plane first and with my luck those are the most used and when they aren't being used I am in class...go figure.

First thing I thought of when I read your thread title was "weird, me too!" lol

I second asking the owner of your flight school to wash the airplanes in trade for some flight time. Also, maybe look at being a ramper at the FBO?

Are ramper jobs shift jobs? Can I do it while being a full time student? I have always wanted to do this.

Talk to the flight school, washing planes is a good way to get time. If the dirty plane is up flying then they will just have you wash the next one in line. A job as a line guy is also a good option, think of it as ground school.

any experience needed as a line guy?

As with most jobs, experience preferred but not required. They'll give you some OJT for a week or so then cut you loose.

I'd imagine they have evening shifts that would work with your school schedule....just ask.

Nice, I'm gonna look around, Thanks for the advice.

I was in the same boat back in '04. I washed 2 planes for every hour of instruction. The school only had 3 planes, but man oh man were they sparkling!
