pinnacle?

Ninety (90) hours on reserve would suck. It does not have to be this way.

It shouldn't. Reserves should be there to cover irops, sick calls and missed commutes. Instead, we're covering open time because everyone else is either illegal to pick it up, burned out or too tired to do it. So, they give it to the reserves. Then when you get sick calls, broken airplanes or guys miss their commutes b/c our non rev benefits got shanked, they have to either junior man or extend a line holder. I'm still waiting to see who my FO is gonna be tonight. The guy that had on it was a lineholder getting extended to cover it. He told them where they could stick the trip, and last I checked, I didn't have an FO. It only adds humor to the fact that whoever winds up on the trip, BOTH of us will be flying on our day off.....

Where are you off to tonight? They called me last night trying to Junior Assign and the number of trips they had was unreal...

No, this has been going on all month. :)

And all can expect the beatings to continue!

Wes, I'm going to JAX. They STILL have the same FO on there according to CrewTrac. Maybe they didn't get the "I'm not doing it" memo yet.

That is hilarious! On the message they left last night, they had 3 highspeeds and a couple of overnights that would end up as 3 or 4 day trips.

The last I heard which was almost a couple of years ago that all classes and interviews were postponed untill 2010. It is 2010 and the first quarter is almost over. No official word from the website nor HR about any hiring needs. From the forums, Pinnacle has been short staffed since 2008 and so far they are still the on time regional. I don't know how this is happening but somehow Pinnacle always gets through with downgrades and or displacements.

I sincerely hope that Pinnacle starts hiring. When they cancelled all the classes in Sep 2008, everyone said hell was gonna freeze over. When they downgraded 30 captains, everyone said the operation was gonna seize.

But, as far as we know, nothing happened, Pinnacle boosted their performance even better.

Rumor is that there are no new hire classes scheduled this year according to their budget. Somehow, Pinnacle will get through with flying colors this year like always without hiring.

No flamebait, and I hope I am wrong. I was scheduled for an interview and that got pulled back then.

Pinnacle will be forced to hire. Look at the writing on the wall.

These are not end of month cancellations for out of time crews. These cancellations are going on all month.

We are still in the slow travel season and this airline can't cover their schedules.

They have already maxed out their flight crews.

They have run out of options. It's airline 101.

FYI, I never flew to JAX. The cancelled the flight and 3 others. No FOs to fly them. The hope from management is displacing 14 CAs and 20 FOs from the -900 to the -200 will give them the staffing they need to squeeze through the summer and cruise through the slow period in the fall. Management has a way of planning for the best and ignoring the possibility of the worst. If their plan gets derailed, it's the equivalent of people watching a burning house, standing in the front yard saying "Huh...." while it burns. If things don't go according to plan, management here seems extremely baffled as to why. Then they put out a memo about "unplanned absences" and try to get people not to call in sick or fatigued anymore by guilt tripping them.

Common sense says "hire." That's never been a very big thing around here, though.

I remember when Skyway was cancelling flights left and right back in 2007 when I was in ground school due to a lack of pilots, you think they would just hire a few so that pax don't get screwed constantly with cancelled flights. Someone was wondering how I could "accidentally" apply to Pinnacle, I once tried to apply to eagle and airlineapps would not accept my application for eagle no matter what I did ( I had applied a couple of years ago to eagle) so after all that work, I figured I mine as well apply somewhere. A former pilot that I flew with at Skyway seemed to think that some hiring was soon to be in the works but who knows.

Are there any penalties for cancelling flights? Doesn't Delta ask for reasoning behing cancellations? Short staffed will not be the right answer especially in this economy.

Considering they are NOT saying we are short staffed, then it will not be the answer they give Delta (if Delta even cares). They will blame it (as always) on "unplanned absences" and issue another memo on how we are not to be sickor fatigued, how to stay healthy, and not to take any 'mental health days'... :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Sad fact is, he's right. We've already seen two such memos in the past month. Now, it's gonna start happening in ATL, too.

It's sad that they are cancelling flights thus losing money instead of hiring some more folks who could really use a job right now. Does it cost a lot to hire new pilots? I am new at this and I know the payrates are not that much. But I know that the new hires will work and they won't have to cancel flights which would make everyone happy.

Well, they ran a "cost analysis," and apparently it costs less to displace 14 CAs and 20 FOs from ATL than it does to run a couple of classes. It would also take about 3 months to get the FOs on the line. They can displace and get them on the line in less than a month.

Any updates on Pinnacle? Looks like negotiations are going on.

Aggressive negotiations at that. They'll be going on pretty much Mon-Fri from this week up until the first week of April. As for hiring, I wouldn't expect any kind of news until June or July at the earliest. The displacement takes effect in May, and the company is absolutely convinced this will solve all their staffing issues. If it doesn't, it'll take a month or four for them to pull their heads out of the sand.

Steve- you are doing a great job with the actual facts.
