Friends, I was joking. I am quite sure Harrison Ford doesn't own a B-52.
We Know, but it makes great hijack material

People need to realize that there are two types of hippies. The pot smoking, devil may cry quasi-nihilist oldschool hippies (they are usually enjoyable to hang out with, and don't make any asinine judgments like this), and then the Yippies, or "Yuppy Hippies." These are people who have so little going for them that they have to find a cause, and so a lot of them latch onto environmentalism because hey, who doesn't like to backpack! But seriously, yes, the environment is getting jacked up, but Harrison Ford flying out for a $3000 hamburger isn't the problem, the problem is that there is no readily available alternative to the petroleum burning jet. They should spend their time developing an electric plane, then bitch later.

I don't see the problem. The smoke lets you know it's working.
You mean the electrical plane that will hook into an electrical grid that can't support it and draw power from a coal fired plant?
Are you trying to describe half of Haines?People need to realize that there are two types of hippies. The pot smoking, devil may cry quasi-nihilist oldschool hippies (they are usually enjoyable to hang out with, and don't make any asinine judgments like this
Nuclear, then fusion, and solar, in a perfect world, but its a start. Energy isn't the only thing petroleum is used for, plastic comes to mind...
Off the top of my head, Ford owns at least one piston popper.
awesome - yes.
excessive carbon - no.

Yes he does but you forgot what is in the big hangar:

I'm sure the same people who chastised Ford will be happy as peaches to have a nuclear plant, solar plant (http://www.yakima-herald.com/storie...object-to-massive-solar-project-near-cle-elum), or wind farm (http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2010/01/ludington_meeting_on_offshore.html) built near their house.
They also won't object to the construction of the larger power grid near their house and the expenditure in fossil fuels by heavy machinery doing this.
Yeah, and what about all the plastic in the Prius the Yippies are driving? And what are we going to do with the battries when they are no good that are comming out of the Prius's? When my Dino burning truck is dead, it'll be recycled into another dino burning truck. What will the battires be recycled into, aside from toxic waste. NiMH battries are not highly toxic, but they do have toxic material in them that can not be recycled into a non-toxic state. So the may burn less fuel, but they have MORE toxic materials in them then a regular car does.
No one said it was logical, I agree with many of these people's points on a wide array of issues, but I fail to follow their logic often. To be honest, I personally doubt that cars on the road or planes in the sky are what's resulting in global warming, frankly I think its all the farm animals we've got to sustain our unnaturally large population, and all the land we've deforested to build farms and cities. Wilderness and managed forest is the key to a good environment, but the hippies would rather that all the land was locked up and untouchable...
I recommend the book 1491...
Another myth. Forest acreage in the US has been stable for the last 100 years as a result of increased productivity of farms and... uh oh... the death of the family farm as more people have turned away from agriculture as a means of living. Some areas have seen a return of forests that were cleared by early settlers. As an example, someone wishing to visit the area in Massachusetts where the battle of Concord/Lexington were fought will be surprised to see much of the battlefield, which was cleared for farms back then, now has returned to the forest so the actual battlefield is difficult to see as it was back then. There are many pictures of national parks at the turn of the 19th/20th century which have fewer trees than pictures today.
I'll agree they smoked a lot, especially the the older ones with the J-57, but that photo has been darkened. I spent a lot of years watching them fly in and out of Fairchild before the AF moved them to Barksdale it was never that dark.
Mike you still in bama? Has this thread been sufficiently hijacked yet![]()
Depends on the model, the G model had J-57's and water injection and smoked like crazy, the H model had TF-33's and no water injection. The G's didn't always use the water injection.
As stated in the last post on page 3 of this thread......![]()
