Tailwheel!!

Got my endorsement yesterday in a 1973 Champ Citabria. It was a really great experience. For those interested it took me 6 flights over the course of a month, a total of 7.6 hrs, and a whole lot of landings!!

Starts off very humbling when the aircraft shows you how sloppy your rudder work is and the landings aren't very pretty!! Great sense of achievement when you're able to produce consistently decent 3 point landings, xwind landings, wheel landings etc. And a short field T/O in the Citabria with a STOL kit is great fun!!

Would recommend it to anyone especially if you need some hours to fill the logbook for commercial or whatever (regret not doing it before my comm) - or if your just looking for something new, interesting and challenging.

Congrats!

Took me 2.6 and 2 flights, and I have yet to groundloop the Pawnee, even in a 12G17 crosswind. I guess I must have learned something.

I wouldn't say conventional gear is any harder than tricycle gear, just different. Especially now that I have conquered my fear of wheel landings.

Had my first Citabria flight last Friday- now I've got something else I need to spend $$$ on. Unfortunately, my club requires a 10 hour check out.

Apparently, my rudder work is a lot better than I thought because that didn't give me any problems. It really helps to be able to see over the nose while taxiing, and the Citabria gives you great visibility.

What exactly is a "real" pilot? Does a nose wheel or tailwheel really make one real or not?

Not really.

Ssshhhh! Quiet! Go around telling the truth like that, and before long all the tricycle-gear pilots won't view us as gods of the aviation world anymore.

I WAS JUST SAYING, I MIGHT NEED TO GET SOMETHING BIGGER THAN MY 140 IN ORDER TO FIT MY MASSIVE BALLS INSIDE....

You mean my 10 hour Citabria check out DIDN'T make me a god in the aviation world?   :sarcasm:
