Prescription Shades

Due to the dry air out here in Denver, I need to start wearing glasses when I fly instead of my good old contact lenses. I have a pair of Maui Jims but they are polarized:whatever: Any good picks for non polarized shades that can take a prescription lens?

I wear Serengeti Drivers Gradient prescription lenses and love them. Good for both cloudy and sunny days, and not polarized.

I work in the optical biz. When you have your prescription lenses made, just tell them you do not want polarized. Just because the frame comes with polarized lenses does not mean that they will only make them polarized. If you are not going with polarized, I would recommend a mirror coating to help combat the glare. There are some some subtle mirrors out there. It does not have to be the big bright silver mirror, or if you like that you can do that too. Polycarbonate lenses as well as hi-index lenses are big producers of glare, so you would also be doing yourself a big favor by adding a back side anti-reflective coating to go with that mirror coat. It can get a little pricey, but the results are worth it. You may even be able to use your existing Maui's, if they are able to hold prescription.

You can probably find a small shop to cut you prescription lenses for your existing frames. If not, get Serengeti gradient. They are expensive but worth it.

Oakley will take most prescription lenses, as long as the wrap around isn't too pronounced. But you would need to find an eye doctor that deals with them. I found the best thing to do was check with all the local eye doctors and see what brands they deal. That way, you can try them on right there and get an idea of what you like.
