Row if you could give more info about a few of them,
A lot of the stuff listed dosen't seem like it would warrant getting suspended or fired.
The Duty day limits were because the FAA decided to change how the interpreted the language on us. 24/7 became 1 calendar day.. retroactive they also said no more 91 after 8 hours, and legal to start/ finish was on a per leg basis. Would have been an awesome set of work rules, but the faa backed down when the realized that every carrier interpreted the rules the way colgan did. nobody got suspended or otherwise.
Lots of the issues boil down to a lack of training in certain areas. FMS procedures were not really trained during transition, as you were supposed to do most of it on the line.
We also had the FAA investigate a pilot who was following profile, pilot was on paid leave untill it was cleared up. Not to mention, there have been 'some' mainline CAL guys who think it's their job to police colgan pilots, and submitting letters to our CP about incidents that have not happened, or have grossly misstated facts. (grow up maybe?..)
Colgan pilots really have been under the gun, at this point I really do have mor faith in them than just about any pilot group. Myself in the last year, had 3 PC's, (2 with the FAA) 4 line checks, and at least 6 observations (jeopardy) as well as recurrent, LOSA and external audits. Thats more than 10 at risk events for myself, and it's been mostly the same for others. Sure it seems like there is alot going "wrong" here... but I would like to see how any other pilot group stands up to that much attention.
Also, the props were not feathered, but if both condition levers are accidentally lifted past the 850 detent, the PECs kick offline, regulating prop control to the overspeed governors, which were not meant to last for long... meaning you have to air return, or land really soon. Colgan procedure calls for a 2 detent movement on the climb check... but had no warning for what happened if you went past the detent say, in bumps. It's not like they actually feathered both engines on a flight.
Honestly, most of this stuff is being posted in a manner to make it look like pilots are screwing up left and right, which is not the case. Again, it's not my place to comment on a lot of the issues, and really should be left for those involved. Take it for what it is...
From what I see, ( only the FO's) those that are here are by the book, and standard. I like to believe the entire pilot group is at this point.
