Hello, i am a Commercial Pilot / Instructor and have been flying for a while.I have been flying GA and CFIng for like 3 years and recently started to fly Cargo Jets in the Middle East. Getting so passionate about flying i think i neglected some very basic health considerations of increased health Risks by it.

Now Flying a Jet and averaging a 150-200 hrs per month here, just rang my bell. What are the increased risks being exposed to such an eviroment that,,,,any statistics will be highly appreciated. I wish with everything i have that there is none,,,but thats too good to be true,i hope am wrong :) ...

Is there a way to be proactive and take such care to avoid any risks drastically? See we are all looking for the High Altitude job .... i am just curious to c whats the total package we get with the job.... the worst thing to happen to a pilot is to survive the plane and get sick in a couple of years,,,Plase advice.

i guess flying a jet is the same anywhere,,,i am surprised how many people never ask about this and hopefully we can get more knowlegeble of what we are actually gettin into by flying a Jet.

I am looking in a long life career in Aviation and hope to make it a reality. This is not a discouragment type of thread, but if any health risks should be condidered and action should be such to keep us healthy to fly till we die!!!! Is that Duable!? I sure hope,,,,I am talking for Aviation related health probs arising from the field it self,,,and not previous personal health issues that prevent flying.

I assume you are mainly referring to cosmic radiation, and that only becomes an issue when flying (regularly) at altitudes above FL490, quite an unusual altitude for commercial ops. Commercial aircraft flying beyond that altitude must/shall be equipped with some kind of radiation gauge - if I recall it correctly.

PS. there is an AC (120-61A) about high altitude ops on the faa website, might be of interest, see the link below:

Just curious, do you not have a day off?
