Congrats!

Just curious - it does seem like you just got this gig in Houston - what is taking you all the way to Alaska? Is it just insane money?
It's a combination of things.

I really like Houston-really I do-But the place I work at has some...issues.

This position kind of fell into my lap-and it's a raise from my current job (even with the increased cost of living in AK). 1) have no debt and 2) have no kids, what better time to go live in one of the most beautiful places in the US? Plus Alaska is just cool.

Damn sure can't argue with that. Congrats and luck

Your gonna miss Texas though:p

Is the wife on board? My wife would die of exposure anywhere north if the Mason/Dixon line. It drops in the 60's and she is pulling out sweaters and coats....

Yeah, she is...we both grew up in MN so Juneau will really be very similar in the winter, with more precip. Summers won't get nearly as warm, but after 5 years in TX I think I've had my share of warm summers. At least until I get old and crochety.

Are you going to be looking to eventually break into flying up there?
*Shrug* that depends. If the opportunity presents itself, sure. But if the wrenching goes well and I keep getting raises...it'd be hard to go back to the bottom of the totem pole.
