UAL International Jumpseat

Hey, has anybody jumpseated on UAL internationally? I might have to jumpseat from Korea back to the states and was wondering how hard it is. I've jumpseated on them in the states domestically, and for those I just showed up at the gate and requested the jumpseat. I'm wondering if thats the case for international jumpseats as well. Also, if anybody has the ability to check loads on UAL, I was wondering if you could check flt 892 from ICN-SFO on 2/1/10. Thanks in advance for the help.

List on 1-800-UAL-LIST or else it will not work. Use the term "OMC" when listing. Check in at the ticket counter or departure check-in area. They will give you approximate loads on the phone line.

Once again, thanks man. You have been great help with all this international non rev stuff. I guess I'm just a retard.

UA 892 02/01/10 ICN SFO

First: 10 seats, 9 booked, 2 NR
Business: 45 seats, 18 booked, 0 NR
Coach: 198 seats, 212 booked, 0 NR

If that is the only seat available I believe they will.

Actually if you just go up to the front and say hi chances are good they'll give you something better. Most of the captains are too senior to care one way or the other anyway! However vs. listing I believe you are the lowest of the low on the priority list as an OMC.

UAL will put you in business, but not first. Even if it's the only seat left, you get left behind.

List on the phone. The gate agents outside of the US cannot do it.

Jumpseating internationally on UA is pretty easy. Regardless of the fact that you may or may not be listed in advance, go to the ticket counter early to check in. You will have to pay taxes on the jumpseat. The agents working the international side of things with UA are not as familiar with OMC procedures, so having a lot of time on your hand is a good thing. Once you get to the gate area, you'll be called up like the regular standbys. If there is a seat in business United will clear you to Business, but not to first class. I sat in coach to SYD and biz on the way back. Other airlines will clear you to coach and the crew will move you if there is room.

Thanks again all! I called 800-UAL-LIST and she said to call back about a day before the flight to list. Sounds relatively easy. Good thing coach is oversold. Be nice to sit in business class for the 13 hour flight back to the states instead of the middle seat in the back. Thanks again everyone.

Until you see some other jumpseater there and it's one of the stations/captains/gate agents that says they can only take one off-line jumpseater. Extra day in ICN for you!

Do not depend on UAL; leave an extra day or two to get home just in case.

Yea I hear ya. United is my backup plan to get out of Seoul. My main plan is to use NWA out of Seoul to Narita then take the Delta flight out of Narita back to Kennedy. Only problem is the NWA flight out of Seoul is filling up. I bought a Zed fare on that segment so I'll try and zed it on Koreanair or something if I can't get on NWA. It would be so nice to jumpseat up front on international city pairs. I hear you can if you work for that airline but not if your an offline jumpseater. I wonder if me being a wholly owned step child of NWA/DL I could ride up front from Seoul to Narita. Doubt it.

I have flown on UA from ICN-SFO twice. Very easy. Just make sure you get there early. Check in at the ticket counter, and then greet the captain at the gate before boarding. Otherwise the gate agent has to escort you down the jetbridge to the Flightdeck. they get pretty irratated by it since they are busy with other things to do.

As for Int'l jumpseat in the actual jumpseat its a no go. But if the ICN-NRT is in a A330, you can sit in the pilots bunkroom, since its not technically the FD. However, since the DL merger i have noticed they fly the 75s now on that route, which sucks!

I would recommend bringing goodies for the crew. i normally spend about 20 bucks on snacks/chocolates/cookies for the flight and cabin crew. they love it!

also, have you looked into taking Polar Air Cargo? they fly ICN-LAX almost everyday!

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if need be.

I'd rather have them put a 757 on a route like that so they can put the A-330 on some other route that is currently a 767ER -- the Airbus is not as prone to the weight issues for non-revving at all.

Are you guys (NWA/DL wholly owned) not listed as crew when you jumpseat?

Wholly owned doesn't mean employed by the same company. Then again, I don't even think you can sit up front int'l if you ARE employed at the company operating the flight.

Here (Eagle) we can sit in the jumpseat in and out on int'l flights. I have done it to and from LHR.
