BA flight 5390

I can't put into words how blown my mind is right now. I just watched a show about it. For those of you who don't know of it (I have no idea how main stream this sorta thing is in the aviation world) this was a British Airlines flight on June 10th 1990. At about 17K feet, the left windscreen failed causing it to blow out and the pilot to be sucked out of the cockpit. Somehow his foot got stuck on his interments and the flight attendances were able to hold onto his legs until they landed. For 20+ minutes, the pilots body was pinned to the aircraft and for 20+ minutes he endured 500MPH winds, sub zero temperature, and thin air. Some how he survived. Then on top of that, his co pilot was young and inexperienced... oh by the way he too had to deal with 500mph winds and thin air. This may be old news to you all buy my mind has been blown. I though Jack Baure was the only one who could get away with that sorta stuff.

Another amazing story is the A-6 BN that was partially ejected out of the cockpit. He spent 10 minutes sticking halfway out of the canopy while his pilot trapped aboard the boat. The pictures are scary looking.

July of '91, KA-6D tanker. Definitely scary.

Holy crap, never saw those pictures before though I heard about the incident. Was he trying to eject for some reason or was this not instigated by him?

What struck me was at one point they were actually contemplating letting him go - horrible decision to have to live with.

Very lucky to have all survived as the cockpit door broke loose and slammed against the throttles plus the CA's legs were pressing against the yoke!!

Pretty cool FO - another reason why FO's should get more recognition. More than just Flaps Up, Gear Up etc etc.......
