Todd can you answer this? Hearing around the forums today 48 Captain Openings and 48 First Officers? Classes possibly as early as Feb???

Hopefully this helps the Midwest guys and gals that are out of work.

Well who knows.... Although I agree, there are many whom were in the pool I believe... Then ontop of that until they get a long call out I dont know how many will be in a hurry to go sit reserve in ATL and be away for only 10 days off.... Now if they live in ATL then I could see many wanting to go.... I guess that is also me assuming that all new hires get based in ATL and not MKE (since its a 737 base).

According to their website, they are not currently hiring new poolies.

Correct... Which is why I'm curious if they got an email today on vacancies..... And thus upgrades etc... Which APC and even the Airtran website would not have just yet.... Who knows... Perhaps just a wild rumor floating around on the other sites and thought I'd ask an expert on the topic (Todd).

He might have to keep his lips a little shut about these types of details.

Eh... If we have other Airtran pilots I'm sure they can speak of a company email that would state if their were vacancies published or not.... Nothing to private about that. I dont know any other Airtran pilots and do not think we have any others on here. And from looking around else where it seems like there might be some truth but the Airtran pilots are few and far between.

Sorry, didn't notice where you indicated it was a company e-mail.

I know our MEC isn't able to expound on certain short/long term projections of the company - confidentiality and all.

Well, according to APC, there's still 36 guys on furlough that bypassed. I'd imagine they'd get the "last call" letters before any sort of hiring really started.

Talked to a friend at AirTran this week, he's family friends with Stephanie/Stefanie that head's up their HR Dept...no word to her yet for potential hirings.

I say this because he offered up the info to me. Take it for what it's worth...I trust him, he was my Check Airman when I started at Wings Air (he was furloughed at the time).

They've started contacting people in the pool. My last captain got an email/phone call from the HR people asking if he was still interested. They didn't give him any time frame or numbers though.

Stephanie is great people! I highly recommend getting to know her if you want a job at AirTran. I don't think it would be a bad idea to even make an appointment with her for a get-to-know-you session.

When I left AT the only person I felt like I "betrayed" was Stephanie. I went so far as to speak with her personally about my decision. She said that she actually saw it coming and understood my position. Good lady.

The HR ladies are usually pretty good people. I'd say the same about two of our pilot recruitment and hiring ladies at ASA.

Sorry it's taken me a few days to respond. Busy week with negotiations.

Yes, the vacancies are true. They are largely the result of the MKE base opening, which was part of this vacancy notice. We currently have recalled pilots going through ground school, and poolies will start ground school in a couple of weeks.

Hiring should start very soon, and there will be a new online application that you will have to fill out. The old school AirTran style of getting hired by going to a career fair or having a buddy walk in your resume is basically over. The computer will now score your application based on total time, PIC time, education, etc. There will be a box for applicants to put in their recommendations, but that is only one element of the scoring. Applicants will be called for interviews based on their overall score.

Good luck to everyone. I expect us to have a new contract this year, so you may get here at just the right time to get a big raise and QOL improvement, plus the company is practically printing money (by airline standards, anyway).

Thanks bud I appreciate you confirming this! Best of luck to those whom apply.... Is this new scoring system something that most airlines do across the board at the Major/Legacy levels? Just curious more so.... I'm sure this opening wont be open for long so those whom want to move on better apply!!! Best of luck!

Also any word on the number looking to get hired? I was thinking it was 48 Captain Openings and 48 First Officers... I did not know if that would mean they just replace the FO's whom are going to upgrade or if it was right now they need 96 pilots total??? Just wondering if you have heard a number and when this will be done by.....

So 135 PIC is useless, even if it is in an transport category aircraft? :(

Yep. That's always been AirTran's policy. They think 135 is too unstructured.

Yes, it's pretty common. It helps them to comply with EEOC requirements, plus it makes it easier to sort through 20,000 applications, which is probably on the low side of what they'll get. At the height of the post-9/11 furloughs, AirTran had about 25,000 applications on file.

No exact number, but I've been told a few classes, which is probably in the range of 25-50 for the first half of the year. In other words, not many. Competition is going to be incredible.
