Security Clearance Question...

I recently separated from the military with a Secret clearance. Does anyone know if this will speed up the application process for me? I have conducted my interview and have been recommended and selected and all that junk. Since there are no PEPC's scheduled in my area, they told me I was going to see a local physician for my physical. How long after the interview do applicants usually take their physicals if they don't attend a PEPC? Thanks in advance, to whomever can throw some good advice in my direction.

No. The FAA runs all of their own stuff, so a current clearance won't help any more than a current airman's certificate for your medical.

The traditional route really doesn't seem to run all that much slower as long as you don't drag your heels getting stuff done. Most people will get started 2-4 weeks after their interview; feel free to prod your HR rep if you feel like it's been taking too long.

PEPCs might be a thing of the past anyway. There's been talk that the last round, back in August, was the end of it. Supposedly it was too expensive, but I can't really see why it would cost any more than getting people to do it individually. If anything, it seems that batch processing everybody would be cheaper. Whatever happens, we're not going to find out for at least six months, I think. With hundreds of people on hold to train now until at least October, there won't be any new selections done, either. So... take your time. Want to get your medical done in Hawaii to justify a vacation? Have at it.

.

And that's true all around. Different Departments in the US Govt have their own security clearance measures. A DOD clearance doesn't count for DHS, just as it doesn't for DOT (FAA). It'll help expedite the process some, if you already currently possess one, but they don't crossover.
