CNN video says that the aircraft is in 3 pieces, however it is only word of mouth. Apparently access to view the aircraft is restricted (good!).

The news here stated "The biggest question is if the pilot should have tried to land in such bad weather". Spoken by the same people who would probably be on their cellphones checking with people in Jamacia "how it looks out the window" if the flight canceled then relaying to the gate agents, "Its not that bad, reinstate the flight".

Fox had an AA spokeswoman on who said the fuselage was cracked, landing gear collapsed and an engine broke off.

Crazy stuff! Glad to hear everyone made it out ok. Already heard the media tossing hail mary's playing morning quarterback. I wish they would use common sense and wait until there's more information before jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

The damage looks about the same as the CAL airplane in DEN, sans the fire. Of course from one side that airplane looked fine too. KIN has water on both ends of the runway, not much room for error before the plane takes a swim. The fact that it didn't get into the water is a VERY good thing.

What's even worse is when you're flying corporate, and the owner of the airplane calls his private pilot buddy that lives down in a valley to get a weather report for an airport on top of the hill...which is engulfed in the 4000' MSL cloud layer.

"My buddy says it's fine, he's down in the valley and he says it's VFR. Why can't we go?"

"Can you call him back and get the NOTAMs and TFRs please? You did say he was a Flight Service Station briefer didn't you?"
