Pratt and Whitneys JT8Ds on a seven duce seven in the cold crisp morning. The crackling the engines make reminds me of what the space shuttle would sound like. Good stuff

...it was a stupid question anyways. D'oh. :) You take some GREAT photos man. You should post more of them up here.

I love JT-8Ds. :)

This summer I got to work the ramp for a company that flies 737-200s. That plane will NEVER sneak up on you.:rawk:

I"m more of a Rolls fan myself, but the JT8 is definitely a song! Except on the Super80 when you get to constantly hear the darn thing cycling through its throttle settings!

Are there restrictions on stage II? I know some airports have really strict noise abaitment. Too lazy to look it up...

Many do, unfortunately. Stage III is the minimum at many airfields.

A few of I know offhand:

Santa Monica, CA (KSMO)

-NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES: PURE JET AND STAGE II (WITH/WITHOUT HUSHKITS) PROHIBITED. MAX MOISE LIMIT 95.0 SINGLE EVENT NOISE EXPOSURE LEVEL (SENEL) ALL ACFT.

Teterboro, NJ (KTEB) prohibits Stage I aircraft:

-STAGE 1 ACFT NOT PERMITTED TO OPR AT TETERBORO ARPT

Long Beach, CA (KLGB) is a little more lenient:

-PRIOR NOTICE REQUESTED FOR MILITARY JETS AND CIVILIAN NON-STAGE III JETS, CTC NOISE ABATEMENT (562) 570-2635 OR FREQ 122.85 MON-FRI 0730-1630.

I think Alaska might be the only state with no real noise abatement procedures. 737-200s, DC-6s, C-46s, and other loud aircraft operate out of ANC all night.:D

Our last "captain" here set off the buzzer going into SMO back in April. ...in a Cj.

Are those people freakin serious? You can't hear it until it's rolling over you on the ramp.
