I was thinking it would be a good idea to compile everyone on JC who is in UPT in a single thread. I think it would be helpful for future and current students, as well as a place to keep updating where our careers take us.

I'll start: I commission next week, ASBC in Jan. and UPT sometime after that.

Great idea for the SERE folks to get a hold of too.......for when you go there. :)

I think the less you know about SERE before you go the better it is. At least you don't spend all that time before hand agonizing over all the rumors you heard.

I agree with that statement but, I think the point MikeD was trying to convey was to not divulge information about yourself, let alone a ton of info in one thread for the SERE folks to look up. It'd be like Christmas for the guys. You never know who's on these forums or who knows some SERE guys up at Fairchild.

Precisely. All these new Lt's all have these "neat" blogs or websites, oftentimes advertising what they do, who they are, family info, training info, etc. The people at SERE thrive on this stuff, and even "screw your buddy" cards have been almost superceded by the internet itself.......the enemy (SERE and real) has some smart folks that go around to all the neat places on the web to find out info about you to use for whatever purpose they like.

Don't make it easy for them......esp if on your way to that lovely course.

We went through a LONG time ago for Vietnam and in January. Snow was butt deep. It was ... interesting to say the least.

One of my UPT and later FAC buddies tells the story about a fellow in his squadron after the war was over. The guy had been shot down, had been captured and taken to Hanoi. The fellow said he was running through all his techniques for resistance. After a while a NVA Lt. walks in wearing an immaculate uniform, spotless. The Lt. sits down at a table, looks the guy square in the eye and said, "Capt Smith, this is NOT Fairchild. There are NO academic situations and your ass is in a lot of trouble."

That's when you know you're screwed. When they do something like that.

Same with LtCol "Gabby" Gabreski, when he was shot down and captured by the Germans, and the first Luftwaffe officer he ran into greeted him with: "Hello Gabby, we've been waiting for you for a long time."

You just know you're screwed then.

I read a book a few years back about guys captured during the second world war. One of the guys said something to the effect of "everybody has their breaking point, the only thing you can hope is that the information you do have is worthless to them by the time they can get it out of you." Seems like a sketchy situation in general.

You can't win as a POW, at best you break even. The enemy has time and nearly everything else on their side.

How does SERE work for you guys, do you get "captured" and interned, then monkeyed with by guys for awhile, can you escape? Out of curiosity. Seems like it'd be a heck of an ordeal in general.

This kind of information cannot be discussed over the internet, much less a public forum.

CNN did a hour documentary on SERE about Special Ops guys a while back if you can find that maybe it would answer some questions. But I am sure they filtered the hell out of the footage they got from being at the 'camp' or their interviews with staff and students.
 
If you fly a low level on VR1266 out of Yuma/El Centro/29 Palms you pass within view of warner springs inbound to the target/restricted area. Maybe you can look over and see what they are doing :p
