Great Aviation Books

I havent read any aviation books in a long time, but I did just read the book about Blackwater. I thought it was a good book.

I'll go with 2 old standbys...
Fate is the Hunter-Ernest Gann
Stick and Rudder-Wolfgang Langeweische

What cool aviation books have you guys read?

I have enjoyed When Thunder Rolled

and I am currently reading Boyd
You guys read anything good lately?

Coram's book on Boyd is quite good. You might want to also read "The Mind of War" (Hammond) which is more about Boyd's philosophies. Another, which I have not read is 'Science Strategy and War: Theory of John Boyd".

If it is -105 books you want, the primer is probably Thud Ridge by Broughton. His other book, Rupert Red Two, is also a good read.

Ken Ball's 100 Missions North is also a recommend.

For someone who has not turned his POW experience into a political calling card, read Sam Johnsons (R-Tx) "Captive Warriors". Johnson, a Texas Congressman, tells a very interesting story.

Drury's My Secret War, story of a FAC in Vietnam is also worthy. Another FAC book is 'A Lonely Kind of War.'

More if you want recommendations.

The Man Who Flew the Memphis Belle: Memoir of a WWII Bomber Pilot by Robert Morgan...this was a great book!

I'm going to recommend Captain Sully's new book, Highest Duty. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it but I really did. I couldn't put it down, it took me about 2 days to finish it.

On the other hand I was really looking forward to reading Fate is the Hunter, after hearing how great it was. Not impressed, it took me a month to get through it.

Not sure why I did, but I just remembered a book I read back in Middle School. It's called Pilot Down, Presumed Dead by Marjorie Phleger.

"Marjorie Phleger's timeless tale of survival and one man's interaction with nature has appeared on hundreds of recommended reading lists for both young and old since 1963. Adventure Books of Seattle presents this classic novel in a Special Illustrated Edition. Book Description: Young pilot Steve Ferris makes a good living taking fishermen from San Diego to coastal settlements in Baja California. But on one return trip, Ferris flies into what the Mexicans call a chubasco - a sudden summer storm that can strike with near-hurricane force. Ferris fights through the storm and is blown far out to sea while raging winds threaten to tear the wings from his aircraft. When a beach appears in the distance, he takes a chance and tries to land."

It's a book for children. But I'm gonna read it again.:)

Seriously guys(and gals,) this is maybe the funniest book I've ever read, aviation related or not. If you aren't laughing out loud while reading this, I'll refund your money. Ok not really, but you get the point.
