Still didn't answer my question, somehow A300 has all the answers but only for the questions he wants to answer.
 
I suggest 135 freight or charter in order to gain PIC experience and not going directly to a regional from whatever flight school you go to because if you do, you will have never have made a real command decision as a PIC and you will have limited adverse weather experience or experience in complex situations.

I am just wondering flight instructors made real command decision as PIC when he or she flys with their students? :confused:

I started on 135 cargo, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I imagine Mainline cargo would be just as enjoyable vis-a-vis not having to deal with pax, being able to fly at night mostly, etc. Thats more up my alley when it comes to 121. But thats just me.
 
I was talking about taking students on IFR cross country and figuring out where to divert due to icing or thunderstorm. :)

This job is so pitifully easy. No drama of passengers or flight attendants. Limited ATC or weather issues at night. Good pay and bennies with good blocks of time off. Can't beat it if you ask me.

You should apply when we hire again. You'd be very competitive.

They are careers now because you guys took all the jobs that ended up outsourcing flying from the mainline.

That would be a VERY limited start. You need to get a job in which you have to operate in icing and thunderstorms and not just divert around them. Anybody can just fly around them.

I remember flying nights (based out of PHX) to ABQ, LAS, SAN, ELP, etc; and being able to have the same controller while crossing multiple ARTCC sectors, with him just giving me a freq change "AZ 303, contact me on 124.65, good night," and the same guy is in the new sector; all since they combine sectors due to the time of night (was same in the F-117, flying overnights). Just easy paced, and easy going. Was even easier when in the single-engine 135 cargo before that, mostly VFR and not talking to anyone, cruising around alone in the PA-32 or C-207. Get to do stuff you normally can't, like show up back to KPHX at 0200, and request pattern work for some practice; something you could never get at most times of the day there.

Some people enjoy pax flying and that's fine, nothing wrong with personal preference.

Too many of us have already said just that to the UPS driver. I wouldn't waste your time trying to say it again.

A lot of things in the country are tax exempt or get subsidies, like farmers for one, why because farmers vote their butts off. How many airlines or airplane manufactures are in certain congressional districts. Like Kyoto, I don't see this getting signed for the same reason. While the global warming crowd can scream pretty loudly, they don't have the kind of money businesses do that stand to lose quite a bit if something like this were to become law.

What confounds me are the number of people out there that think something like this, which would have a very profound effect on our economy in terms of job losses (like we haven't lost enough already!) and cost to the consumer, is a good thing.

I have a sneaky suspicion that you would have made the same decision the mainline guys made back in the day. Hindsight is always 20/20.

There you go with the entitlement attitude again. You'd have a mainline job if.....

It's always someone else's fault that you didn't succeed. Those mean ole mainline pilots giving away THEIR scope. It was THEIR decision. Management just took advantage of your naivety and eagerness to fly a plane.
 
I'm out of my league here as far as most of this conversation but will add this about military pilots. Just because one makes it through military aviation school and just because they become a pilot and even a TAC (HAC for helo's, not sure for fixed wing) does not make one a good pilot.

Maybe it's because I was on the helo side, always heard though not sure if it's true that helo pilots were all the ones who didn't get fixed wing slots i.e. the not so good ones (though there are so few fixed wings slots inthe Corps not sure if it's true) but we had a bunch of pilots who I wouldn't trust to make any decision about anything in life much less an airplane. Yet there they were in the middle of Iraq "in charge" of an 80 million dollar airplane with 24 poor souls in the back.
We had one captain, a freaking captain!!, who was only allowed to fly with one of the lt col's even though she was technically a TAC.

But she was military so she must be a good pilot right? :whatever:

EDIT:I almost died one night hover taxiing at BIAP due to the rookie mistake another awesome pilot we had made. Yet again, there he is in charge of a complex aircraft with 20+ dudes in the back.
