I'll just put this right here...... (awac hiring)

I'd wait til the furloughs are back on the line before getting excited

$25.57 to start and $37/hr second year? Man the new guys are lucky.

Isn't it ironic that mgmt wanted 16% paycuts yet tout the benefits of the union's contract in comparison to peers?

500 multi...too bad that's gonna be the norm...I'd say that will eliminate most (since TONS have 1500+)

I thought all of the AWAC furloughs were back on property. My buddy who was in one of the last classes to run has been back on the line for awhile.

I dont see the 500 sticking too long. Hell lets say AWAC hires... There are many whom are qualified in a CRJ200 and on furlough and dont meet those hours yet.... Would you want to take a wager on a CFI whom has 2000/1000 or someone who has only about 1000/100 and has already passed a 121 program before???

Glad to hear AWAC might be hiring. Ill probably apply with the 1000's of others. Hey Meyers, heard anything about PSA hiring recalling or hiring next year?

Not a word... Wish I have... I was unaware of AWAC going to put this up. But keep in mind PSA has this whole time had on their website they were "taking resumes" for "future" hiring... So perhaps AWAC is doing the same thing. Who knows.... I wish we'd hear something and bring more people back and start draining the pools... Mostly for selfish reasons and getting off reserve but it'd be nice in general...

If I were doing the hiring I'd take the guy with 2000/1000. Passing a 121 program at the regional level isn't that tough, and certainly doesn't put much cash in the experience bank.

But it sure costs less in the long run, and that's pretty much all the Regionals care about right now. The guy with CRJ time probably won't take more than the prerequisite sim and IOE sessions to get online. The CFI with 2000/1000 may make it with no problems or may require extra help. When we were hiring like crazy last time around the average number of sim sessions needed went from 6 to 10 and the hours of IOE went from 25 to 60.

Granted they WERE hiring 400/20 guys then so YMMV.

Why not hire the applicant best suited for the job? It maybe the regional guy or the 2000/1000 guy. That's what interviews reveal.

I once had a student I wouldn't signoff for an ATP checkride despite him having around 2500/500. He couldn't fly a single engine ILS approach to save his life and the steep-turns =. He finally got within PTS but it took quite a bit of work. Most of his multi time was sitting in the right seat and most of his total time were local flights in his dad's 172 (maybe 152). I'm sure he was the exception not the rule. Nevertheless, I think the interview should reveal whose best suited for the job, not necessarily the logbook.

20-30 new hires w/ the 22 furloughs coming back starting in January is what a little birdie wrote.

As of today they already have 70+ applications...

What's AWAC's position on seniority # resignation? Any LOA's within AWAC's contract providing preferential interview / hiring for furloughed ALPA pilots?

AWAC tends to hire on attitude/personal skills and not experience in the last round of hiring. Most people can be taught to fly the plane, experience really doesn't mean all that much to pass training. That being said the two 121 guys that were in my class were let go before training was finished. All the CFI's are still working here.

FWIW I flew the last 3 days with the guy who is charge of the sim training and we talked about the benefits of CFI'ing. One benefit I noticed is captains that have not instructed for any appreciable amount of time tend to be extreme micromanagers. I would say on the order of 80%-90% of them are.

I would be extremely shocked if AWAC ALPA did not push to get Mesa, PDT, and PSA pilots on first... And if they do not, I'd be extrememly dissapointed with them.....

My cousin is the last furlough number on the list at AWAC, so I'll post when he gets back in the game. Personally, I would love to get on with AWAC. They were always in my top 3 wishlist.
