They want the best and brightest up there? Ok, start with more pay and more rest periods. Geesh, this is obsurd.

Buy some 1/32 scale fighter jet plastic models. Basic airframe construction and some model rocket engines later, you're having a great time.

I went to a week long summer seminar thing at the Air Force Academy before my senior year in high school.

We built model rockets in one class. It was a ballistics/rocketry experiment class to see what kind of innovative designs we could come up with.. then launched them on a parade ground to measure distance.

Most put odd wing or canard type devices on a single rocket tube. Most made it halfway down the field.

I won. I built a two-nacelle model with two engines wired together that hit somebody's car on the far end of the field. The instructor looked a little nervous after that. :D

That's hilarious!! Once I mounted a model rocket engine to one of my son's monster trucks. It almost burned down a field. This thread got way off track..
 
We used to get 3ft. sections of 1" diameter steel conduit and attach brass brazing rod sights and make homemade RPGs to shoot bottle rockets at each other.

Well, let's face it- this new airline bill this thread mentions makes about as much sense as a JATO pack on a VW Rabbit, which is more or less along the lines of what we were actually talking about.

It works. :)

Bah, thats childs play. Get a 6" thick walled steel pipe (you'll need the thick wall) stick it in a fire ring pointed roughly where you want projectiles going. Let that pipe get RED hot. Drop 1 pound propane cans down the pipe. Be amazed.

Doctors kill more people than any airline accident. I have never heard of them going in for recurrent. The doctor operating on you someday may have just squeak by at med school and had to retake their tests. We will never see any congress intervention on that now will we?

We have the same pay for each a/c, our F/O's make more than your narrow body Captains and almost as much as your 767 Captains. Our domestic per diem is just a quarter/hr less than your international per diem. Our international override is more than yours. Plus, I often fly out of my home city, so no commuting and get an effective 4 extra days off on each pairing, that means I actually work 8 days out of 28. I fly maybe 250 hrs a year. So yeah, I'm quite happy right where I am.
