Old Ovation

roundout

I finally unloaded the CF card from my D70. These are from a couple months ago when I was racing from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas Redbird one evening. Evening flight, smooth skies, no real weather to contend with, and, most importantly - no 30 knot westerly wind slowing me down. The real bad WX was forecast to move in the next day so I considered it important to get it done this particular evening, even though I'm not normally an advocate of flying an unfamiliar plane at night (especially over barren stretches of southern MS/central LA/eastern TX).

What are all those round things??? No weather, no XM radio?? I don't get paid enough for this. All kidding aside, this is one of my favorite avionics packages. The KFC225 autopilot/FD is one of the best in the business and I like the simplicity of the old King radios. The GPS is a piece of junk, but who cares? It will take you direct to wherever you want to go with a little coaxing.

You have to watch your oil temps in the Ovation. There's not much room under the cowl. This can happen on the ground too - then you're really in trouble.

Typical Gulf Coast weather.

Very nice...

I hope to work up to moving equipment around like that someday! Right now it's all /U, but gotta start somewhere.

Nice pics.
I have to admit I have very little time in G1000 planes but I definitely like the old six pack better.

I totally agree. It just has more of that "this is what an airplane is supposed to be" feel. For some reason, the differences between glass and 6-pack to me are akin to the differences between an automatic and a manual transmission...

After flying a six pack through all of my training, I prefer the G1000. It might just be because I like technology. Not to mention when used right it will decrease your workload which increases safety.
