DALPA Spins Off Compass

Much as I'd be green with envy, I was really hoping DAL would do the smart thing and take those E175s to mainline. Well, now it's even got me wondering if Compass' flowthrough agreement is on borrowed time. I'm sure Delta management would like to have better control over who gets hired rather than a "Come on down, you're the next contestant on "What's your seniority number?"" At least, that's what it seemed like back when they were hiring.

As for what other regionals think about Moak, he's sort being painted as a knight in shining armor here. Or at least, the only person that's willing to listen and say he's gonna help with the pass benefit issue.

Wondering if Mesaba's is on borrowed time too. Although, in fairness to Delta, the guys I've talked to like the Mesaba guys that have come over in hiring and in flowthrough.

They're very entrenched.

Basically, if you bring up an issue, instantly you don't understand and "Well, we have the best bankruptcy contract... we were in unprecedented terrority, yadda yadda yadda..."

I'm in a verbal wrestling match with the Communications Committee because they're uhh.... not. Our modern communications technique is multi-colored paper "updates" in our V-File, a Code-A-Phone and a forum that would make you stab your eyeballs out, and that's an improvement.

If you're not with the administration, you're ill-informed, we work hard, we know what's best, or my favorite when you're arguing with an insider, "(name) has the FULL support of the MEC".

At this point, the average line joe doesn't count because it's all about getting to national IMHO.

Some in the administration like to brag about a 12,000 pilot strong, "800 lbs gorilla" (not MY quote) but when it comes to basic contractual improvements:

The price of crude oil!

Bookings are down!!!!

Electronic Jepps cost as much as paper Jepps!

(whatever) must be cost-neutral!!

Don't you want a profitable company?!

Blah blah blah.

Of course I've been typecast as the "always angry guy from DFW" (??), "internet geek", and pretty much a know-nothing miscreant... Oh, just wait until the show goes to national.

I have little chirps of squawking, but I'm reluctant to come out of activist retirement. Kind of like standing in front of a Mac Truck. You can make a stand, but when they tire of you blocking the road, you'll be summarily run over and cast aside.

I hate to say I've given up as I'm still helping with some "other stuff" in other pilot groups, but I'm nervously watching who gets elected in the ATL LEC. With roll-call voting and a massive voting bloc, there are a couple of candidates running that could really turn the tide for the line pilots.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Guys,

All of the above is quoted for gospel.

The current communications guy is simply a parrot for the MEC chairman, and doesn't even seem to pretend to represent the views of others on the MEC. The MEC is supposed to be driven by the LEC reps who make it up (who in turn represent the pilots), but a a fiefdom of one guy is really the only way I can describe it .

Ironically, the lack of communications doesn't seem to deter someone who SEEMS a lot like him from spending an inordinate amount of time browbeating others for "dissent and disunity" on annonymous forums like APC.

I can tell you that when they say he has "the full support of the MEC", they are talking about ONE guy, and that's Moak. The North reps aren't impressed.

But I'm not going to turn this into a north vs south thing. Suffice to say, the north side had a different, more public, way of going about things, and whether it was better or worse remains to be seen. But the north guys are chafing about a LOT of things, and it ain't management related.

I've heard the same thing from your reps, and I'm just amazed. He's really got them hoodwinked.

The North MEC was always dysfunctional, but at least democracy prevailed. I don't think the South head honcho knows the meaning of the word.

.. it's not all about scope, especially with hoards of "RJ drivers" with a desire for mainline.

It all begins qith scope. Now, exactly what and how scope functions can be debatable.

In fact, the IBT sent me this:

Which cause me to change ID holders, ID Lanyard and what not for the first time in about 5 years.

Really, it's the first thing the IBT has sent out that I carry or care about, besides my membership card
