Helo to fixed wing

hey all,

I have a good friend who would like to finish up his fixed wing private license. He went to the military and now he flies helos for a non-named company. long story short. he has his commercial and IFR ticket and ATP for helos. He has thousands of hours. I was wondering if he can jsut do a refresher course per part 141 states, or would he have to start all over and do the whole 35 hrs or 40 hrs deal to finish up his private. I think i have said this right.

If he signs up for a 141 course, then he has to complete the WHOLE course per the sylabus.

OR he could do it pt 61, and simply add a new catagory and class to his existing CPL-Helo. Much cheaper.

Where in the Rucker area can one go to mil-comp their rotary wing over to Comm-Inst Rotorcraft-Helo, when the time comes. Is there a place?

USMCmech said it correctly, but let me put a little sharper edge on it. IF the 141 school has a helicopter to airplane transition course, then he could do that course. However, it would be a very specialized course and very few 141 schools would have that as one of their approved courses. Then again, if he is flying helicopters for the military, it may be that there is such a 141 school near where he is stationed because the population would support such a course.

Yeah - there's lots of places actually should be about $90 or so for the training and the test. (Easiest test ever!)

I know you get them done at WIngs or the Hanger outside of the Daleville Gate, but I went to here:

...and had no complaints. They even do all the paper for you. And, if you were learning how to fly a real helicopter they'd even add a type rating for ya .

A correction to the reference. A pilot desiring a private SEL add-on only needs 22 hours, not 30 hours. 30 hours is a realistic number and what I tell pilots to expect, but the actual minimum is 22 hours.
