Layman's terms for FAA Part 123

Well, there's always the bastardized step-child of the reg's, Great Lakes, who operates under 121 reg's but flight time limitations are 135 or something along those lines. For example, we can fly 34 hours in 7 days, 120 in a month, and 1200 in a year. But of course that's because we aren't working as hard as people flying airplanes with more seats. Obviously, more seats = more work for the pilots.

What does 'Flag Carrier" mean?

Thanks,

b.
Flag Carrier means that they can operate internationally.

There are 3 types of 121 operations

1) Domestic
2) Flag
3) Supplemental (Basically you negotiate with the customer, either all cargo or charter)

You need Flag to go to AK or HI as well. The main difference between 121 Supplemental and 135 "On-Demand" is the type of aircraft flown. You would fall under 121 supplemental for aircraft with >9 passenger seats or a payload capacity greater than 7500 lbs.
