Sorry. No more from me. Have fun in your new van guys.

I was going to let my membership lapse with AOPA because I was tired of all the junk mail. Then, within a month of my membership expiring I started receiving 3 times the junk mail and at least 2 phone calls a day asking to renew. They caught me at a bad time and I just gave in and renewed. Magically, all the mail and phone calls ceased.

Glad to know where the renewal fees went.

I can't help but think it's a good 'ol boys club. I know someone who used to work there, and didn't paint a great picture of the guts. But when I read that article in the front of this months mag, I felt a little bile in the back of my throat.

The CJ is a little disgusting too. A lot actually.

I know! Its disgusting really. A private organization dedicated to pilots and them buying a new airplane!

Instead of spending that money to lobby against user fees or help the "GA Saves America" thing by playing a commercial outside of an FBO?

Yeah, that's disgusting. That's also why I'm not a member anymore. Sure, I'll write my representatives...I'll even have lunch with them or play golf with them when my father in law can set it up. What I needed to know is what does AOPA want to do...and apparently it's buy airplanes. Maybe they'll start their own charter company.

Yup, I've figured out that they have spent more money asking me for MORE money than I gave them in the first place. Not getting another cent.

You guys sound like the bean counters at all the companies that dumped their planes and their pilots.

Ever thought that they actually may have a need for these airplanes?

The CJ3 doesn't move a whole lot. About 30 hr's last month according to flight aware. They are trying to cut costs even more by buying this caravan. I think it is a good investment.

Just sold the Bo...to buy the diamond though. I would take the Bo anyday over that.

Guys -

I am not sure about the stewardship of funds, or about the lobbying stroke, but I am a member of EAA. Takes about the same amount of cash (plus another $20 for Vintage membership...and I will be adding on an IAC membership at some point). It does allow you to donate to GA, I like the magazines better (lots of taildraggers), and they have a good website. Just an idea for you AOPA guys who want to belong to something without funding a Citation and Caravan.

I belong to:

Antique Airplane Association
EAA, and VAA
National Waco Club (great website and forum)

Is there something the caravan and a DA-40 can do that the Cj can't? You don't need much more room to get in/out in a Cj than you do in a van.

Ehh...maybe a more cost effective way to move staff members on flights of up to 250 NM, allowing them to be in 3 cities in one day? Kinda like our company does in the Cirrus?

*Supporting GA...

IIRC the CJ's tailnumber is N4GA...

Just sayin'

Oh, I know. I think they should buy a fleet of airplanes and fly them all over so people can see them.
I don't know why people, especially the ones that aren't even members, care if AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) buys an economical people mover that they require for business. They operate off of donations, dues and investments. They send out requests for money. Its no different than me subscribing to National Geographic. I get something in the mail from them every week wanting me to renew-even though my subscription doesn't expire for 18 more months.
Its the nature of the beast.
Plus, if youre a member all you have to do is call AOPA and tell them to quit sending you letters and calling and it will magically stop.
