More Piedmont Furloughs for November 1st

What if everyone retired tomorrow? Where would the social security come from? Don't be mad at the guy that worked his tail off, then got laid off. He contributed to his unemployment benefits, as did his employer. Be mad at the government for not storing the money properly. They bank on people NOT using those benefits. It's almost like some of the shoddy 401k things you see.

Like Ponzi schemes? :insane:

You're missing the point, if everyone lost their job today who would pay for them?
Perhaps you are missing the point. The point being that it is a crappy situation, and his comment was obviously a bit of hyperbole to look at the silver lining of a dark cloud. I would say the same thing myself, while I nearly kill myself looking for work. I doubt no one seriously disagrees with your economic theory, but again I would say it is what is off point.
Please don't take this as a slam, just an observation.

You're making your way up to Old Skool! :)

Being on unemployment does NOT mean you're a deadbeat.

I think some of us need to put down the basepipe when it comes to perspective on the issue.

My wife's on unemployment. However, she also had a solid 22 work history of paying taxes, many of which since she's got no children, paid for your public school education and potentially defrayed the cost of your secondary education.

Her industry (civil engineering & transportation planning) got absolutely rocked with the pop of real estate bubble here in PHX.

So she's trying to start a small business with her let hand and trying to find employment with her right. In bed by 0400, up by 0900 7 days a week because she's trying hustle.

That is NOT a vacation.

Piedmont is going to unfortunately have a lot of guys hitting the street in an absolutely terrible job market. I think they deserve our real-world support rather than our philosophical finger-wagging about having to apply for unemployment benefits.
