News Story Re: Support for GA Airports

Wow, I love how they make the GA airports out to be monsters of the community. Let's neglect to mention that the pilots who are flying your commercial flight, had to learn at some point, and you know there aren't a lot of 172's doing touch and go's at JFK.

...because we don't have any taxes on 100LL. Give me a break.

Have to love the news media. Makes GA out to be the bad guys. The ones with all the money. Such a shame. Why doesn't somebody do an expose on how GA fuel taxes go to fund the whole system too? Never hear about that one, do ya?
 
Some guy on the USAToday comments said something to the effect of "if you're puttering around in a Cessna at 2,000 feet, then you're rich - you just might not want to admit it".

Any of you guys feel rich (financially), cause I sure don't. :)

Nope. I don't think having student loans makes me rich by any means.

And, after I carefully read through the thing, I'm ashamed that a ERAU professor would be willing to comment for an article like this.
 
Let them have their way. I better not hear any bitching when every single corporate jet from Teterboro shows up at La Guardia or White Plains. You think their self induced delays are bad now, wait until we show up in the mix. I can find 1001 different ways to screw up the flow even worse than it already is.

You don't want to go there.
 
USAToday last a ton of respect from me. I used to be an avid reader until I saw the owners house on MTV Cribs: Teenage Edition (It's freaking HUGE by the way) and they posted such ludicrous stories today.

Dang, I flew a Cessna at 2,500ft this morning... must mean I'm rich, oh wait a second, that student loan came in last week.

It is usually the case that people "get in trouble" for delivery, not content. How something was said, not what was said.
 
Let's go to the media by saying that every airline passenger should not fly airlines anymore, they should drive or catch the bus if the ticket prices were to expensive.
 
Why are you guys debating this? They make a good point (I don't agree with it) but why should a passenger flying from NY to LA help pay for something they won't ever use?

How about they mention how my state's airport fund, which is supported through various aviation taxes, was robbed to balance the state budget?

When the user fee stuff first came out, I was on the fence. I could see the argument for making people "pay to play".

But then I got to thinking about other areas of the infrastructure, such as buses, the arts, or missile defense that I may never use, but still serve a public good.

Asking the public to pay for something they don't directly use is not, in my opinion, inherenly wrong - but the benefits should be carefully examined.
 
The idea that everyone who owns a airplane is filthy rich is one that drives me crazy. I know a ton of owners at the airport where we keep our plane who dont even make close to six figures but flying is their passion and they own cheaper airplanes like a 25000 dollar luscombe. I dont even tell non pilots we own a plane because I know exactly what they will think and it is because of articles like that one.
 
I guarantee some of the FETs and flow fees on the 500 gallons of Jet-A we put in our Hawker in Palm Beach will some day find its way into the pocket of a contractor that renovates the airline terminal across the runway.

Same principal aint it?
My boss doesn't plan on using the terminal at PBI, but some of his money is paying for it.

Using that guy's logic, then someone "puttering around" in a RJ or Regional turboprop should be uber-rich; not to mention those at the mainline.
