Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

meh.. i got blindsited with moving across the state in a city that ive never been in before. bad part is we just lost the house we were renting and assuming i go to OKC in the next few months, signing a lease with an appartment would be a credit disaster in a handbag. so long story short my gf is moving back home 6 hours away and im living with my brother until i get back from OKC to save some green before i go.

This whole facility swapping is getting me a little nervous since I'm in the process of buying my first house. I thought a TOL was good enough for me to go ahead and make plans with my life but I guess I'm really rolling the dice on this one.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

TOL's are written in Jell-O. So, be prepared to move around if you want to start working sooner. Your chickens aren't hatched yet, stop counting them. This is the government we're talking about.

What about when you get your FOL, are you pretty much set on that location then? Is there really a chance you could be changed in training too?

Well, if you have a FOL, you have a class date meaning they need you at the facility you have a FOL for. Theoretically they COULD offer you somewhere else, but since you have a FOL you can decline and go to the facility you originally have with little to no issues.

so no, theres really only a smidge of a chance you could get forcefully switched.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

Does anyone know how long it typically takes to receive your FOL after you have received word of a class date? I don't want to offend anyone that is still waiting on a date, but I was just hoping for a bit of info. Thanks.

Took me about 2 to 3 weeks to get a FOL in my email with the e-Onboarding welcome package.

It can take longer, especially if your class date is in the relatively distant future.

I got mine the Saturday I left for OKC. Granted, that may be because I got my class date about 6 days before it started. Some in my class didn't get an FOL at all. It was waiting for them at OKC, along with all the pre-employment paperwork that is normally included with the FOL. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point. If you've received a class date, you should be good.

Re: ** Official "Slated for Next Fiscal Year (Oct. 2009)" Th

I'm worried about getting my FOL because Corporate housing needs your exact dates to book a room. I also need it to make other arrangements as soon as possible.

Really hoping they don't wait until we get there to give it to us. It's bad enough that it's like squeezing blood from a stone to get a reply from my HR rep.

Congrats! What announcement? Terminal/enroute, facility? Paper or plastic?

He's going to ZHU from PUBNAT3... and he's lucky, since the FAA mixed up his paperwork earlier this year with someone having the same name.

I also posted this at SM, if any of you think you already read it.

I just called EM for the first time. She's a fantastic woman and incredibly nice! As a heads up, she has over 100 facilities to handle for just the Central region, with over 500 people in process and a few hundred in the application process. She used to do En-Route, where she only dealt with 8 facilities. Imagine how many people she gets contacting her on a daily basis. She's been doing this for 4 years and has been with the government for 24 more, so she knows our frustrations with the government and its hiring process.

The synopsis from our conversation: Hiring numbers are way down and have been cut tremendously because of A) the economy, B) lower attrition rates, and C) fewer people failing out of class. As a result, even the small facility where I have an offer letter, which somehow has 3 people in process for it, has dropped its FY2010 hiring to 0 for now, but she did say that numbers can change daily. If you need to talk to your HR rep just to check in, they prefer e-mail because they have greater access than they do to phones, and some answer multiple lines (which is why people get busy signals when they call).

If you get a call for a class date before the end of this calendar year, consider yourself extremely lucky. Due to the cut numbers, 24 of EM's 100 facilities dropped their hiring numbers to 0. If that's the same across the country, then 25% of the applicants may not be seeing OKC for at least a year. All of this could change at any time, though, so if you get offered a redirect or anything related to getting you to OKC, your best advice is to take it, lest you be on hold until late 2010/early 2011.

<GASP!> How did you know? Sadly, yes. If she is a mid-west/central enroute hiring rep, how many people could be getting emails from on a daily basis to never reply to any of them? Ugh. Oh, well. I'll just keep biting my nails hoping I still have my class date and get my FOL sooner than later.

Good input, sucks for us though... I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the "mid-september" empty promise.
