I bet it has something to do with the physical qualities of those being hired huh? ;)

It might make things more cheery.

Wouldn't really prove that anybody talking about it was that bright. :)

You can't really complain about the concept of young, attractive, female flight attendants anyhow.

You contributed as much to the stereotype as much as anyone. ;)

Of all the recurring topics that for some reason insist on being repeated over and over and over again, I really hate seeing this one.

It's demoralizing. It really is. From my heart, here's how I feel: (And I'll preface this with this how *I feel*, it doesn't make anything right or wrong, it's just how I feel.) I really wish that people could lose the '60's stereotpye of "hot stews". There's so much more to the people who do the job [of F/A] than how they look. A great majority of the ones I worked with had college degrees, almost all had at least some college. Lots had previous careers and previous "lives" with lots of interesting & intelligent things to contribute. It just takes away from the "total person" to reduce a work group to "check out this airline's hott stews!"

So that's what I think... :beer:

I know. You're preachin' to the choir on this one. I just hate letting you get so riled up over it. It's okay to laugh at a stupid thought, too.

Laughter works well to make a point sometimes. Makes for effective birth control, too. :)
 
Nah, I'm not riled up so much as just rolling my eyes.

What's funny is that I trained 3 guys as F/As this past weekend. Two were pilots, one was an Ops guy who was high up in the planning/logistics area of the company. All three were attentive, respectful, and didn't seem to mind one bit that they were going to be doing the job of F/A... they had the most amazing attitudes. Can-do, will-learn, do-it-right attitudes.

I should have known from the title, but I'm just silly, I guess!

If they're only hiring young, attractive FAs--guess I shouldn't bother applying. :(
 
Weird thing and this might, well, sound gay but, some of my most favorite FAs to fly with are the fifty-ish year old gay dudes that have been in the biz for a few decades. For some reason they always seem to bring a touch of class to the operation.

I agree.

They are very much in tune with the customer service side of things, which some are apparently completely unaware of.

Actually, to me, it adds to the overall "total person" when all those qualities you listed are held within a the structure of a beautiful female.

I don't think the people paying the bills (passengers) really care whether or not you have a couple years of college under your belt. Studies have continually shown that the average person of either sex is much more inclined to have an enjoyable, memorable experience when in the company of attractive people. The subconscious would rather have an attractive energetic young person than big bertha pouring their drinks and demonstrating how the seat belt works. You can argue whether this is right or wrong all you want but the fact remains that this has been proven in many different businesses. A team of attractive up beat flight attendants would do wonders for the bottom line. And don't think that its just the male chauvinistic types, even my wife said she would rather have a young attractive person helping her out than a not so attractive person... :)

At hotel check in the other night, we had a very "moral" first officer. We reach the front desk in YYZ, he says, I hope the porn channel is disabled.

Front desk said, you sir, are a pervert, we only have normal porn here.
 
What a downer. Time to list him on the no-fly list and try to get off the trip.

Surprised they didn't weed him out during the interview process.

Man, I hope every day that Fox News is disabled. It never is, so I do the next best thing: keep flipping channels.
