Does ALPA, as a whole, want the strike by this pilot group to be ineffective? I'm a little confused now.
My question is, if you are a non-union carrier, your company elects to fly this freight and you have to do it and get fired, what recourse do you have if any?
Absolutely none. The best they can hope for is that there entire pilot group (unionized or not) lets management know that they are not interested in carrying around AMJ cargo nobody currently flying for that company is going to carry that cargo. Management then has the option of firing EVERYBODY (pretty costly) or just not carrying the AMJ stuff.
Yeah...but if 20% of Amerijets pilots won't honor their own picket line what chance do you think 100% unity at a non-union carrier that wasn't on strike would have? So...are the non-union employees of the company that is hired to haul this freight scabs? They are flying struck work so I would imagine yes.
They are flying struck work, yes. But how would it be known who specifically at a contract carrier was flying Amerijet cargo (struck work) for the purposes of their being identified as a scab?
You'd be amazed how far strikers will go to find the names of scabs to properly mark them for the rest of their careers.
More likely, the pilots at the contracted carrier wouldn't know it was "amerijet cargo".They are flying struck work, yes. But how would it be known who specifically at a contract carrier was flying Amerijet cargo (struck work) for the purposes of their being identified as a scab?

The box probably says "DELL" or "Oranges" or "Urine" and not "Amerijet". At Airnet, we'd put our own airbill on stuff, so I'm not sure we would have had any way to know any of the little boxes were "amerijet cargo".

Let's see if we can check off all on this list (off the top of my head - feel free to add to it if you're not on there):
Great Lakes
Mesa
Any of the RAH
Astar
Mesaba
Compass
Delta
United
CAL
AirTran
Colgan
ASA
TSA
AWAC
PDT
PCL
WN
Alaska
...heck, just about everyone flies to MIA....
I'll go down for a day if the strike is still on when I'm off work.

So the "unofficial" word I got about ALPA's (lack of) involvement in this was that they feel that the IBT has been "poaching" airlines as of late and as such don't want to get involved. Seems sort of short sighted to me and maybe an official response will be forthcoming. Interesting note, my MEC knew nothing about the strike until I asked if we were going to put out a blast mail.
