Is there even a UAL RFP?

The state of Wisconsin just did a furlough and one of the Milwaukee news stations calculated it would actually cost more money!

Makes sense to me. At the FBO where I work, we were put on a hiring and pay freeze on Jan 1 due to the economy. However, things have been picking up quite a bit. But because we didn't hire we are now "short" staffed, and have been for a while, and I've pulled a handful of 16 hour days, along with many other employees. So we're now getting paid double time when the company could be paying a new hire much less to do the exact same job...

This is why management, all management, makes no sense to me. I understand you "save" money during a downturn or recession, but things tend to pick up quicker than you expect. My girlfriend can't even get vacation time on a day where there's 3 base reserves. And she's only working a local that day.

Amazing.

CNBC, for the past three weeks, has been quite optimistic about an economic recovery between now and 2Q 2010. The one thing holding it back, is the consumer.

The same consumer who everyone laid off over the past two years. The same consumer, who, after losing their job, starts cutting back on purchases. But, they lost their job because managers needed to cut costs because the economy was slowing. Yet, by decreasing their workforce, they are fueling the fire that is a weakening economy by taking more people out of the "consumer who has money to spend" bracket.

I just laugh.

So now they want us to get our jobs back? Yet, they certainly were not defending the right of the middle class to protect their professions or their self-worth by simply staying employed. Oh no.

Just out of curiosity, what is it? Someone in the crew room said "You need to check open time for next month. It's funny." We lost 3000 hours across the board. I found 1400 of it. It's in open time for CAs. Almost 1000 more hours for FOs.....

Looks like I won't be seeing home much next month... :(

Holy crap, I just took a look at open time and that is the most I've ever seen. Its gonna be a long month.

Yea I thought Sept was going to be get to relax month. Already got a assignment for Sept 1st. Looks like it will be the Alpha and the Omega flight crew, ASA's most senior pilot paired with ASA's most junior pilot.

Me too man. Already have a 5 leg day on the first.

Speaking of, have you noticed that you seem to always go the same places on reserve? For me it's AUS, YUL, YYZ, SDF, and FNT. Every time

It's a bit different on the -200 for opentime in September. I haven't seen such a small amount during my time on the airplane. Inexplicably, still more red arrow days than the combined number of healthy teeth on a full flight to most cities we serve in the Southeast.

My guess is that the -700 is going to have a ton of opentime in Sept as the downgraded -200 CAs go through -700 FO training and current -700 FOs go through -200 FO training. October should be a dead month on both airplanes.
