Updating ASAP Application

After you send in your geo pref. email, will the selection panel see your updated user information such as work experience and education? I recently updated it before I sent in the geo pref.

I spoke with HR before about this. They said it is sent to them as you submitted it. Any changes made on ASAP would not be reflected on their versions.

Kind of frustrating, huh. You may have done something that'd be a potential boost to your app, and they'd never know about it. In my case, I went out and got my private pilot certificate in the interim, but couldn't add it on.

yeah im just wondering because i recently changed employers and finished another a semester of college. It's no big deal because i meet the minimum requirements, but that app is from december of 2008 lol and im just getting the geo pref.

As long as you meet the minimums, that seems to be all they care about. There is a huge variation in work/school experience in my en route class here.

I wouldn't worry - it was a year from the time I applied to when I interviewd - a lot have things have changed or will change.

so up to this point your selection is based largely on your geo pref.?

Do you mean whether or not you'll get hired? If so, sorta. Depends more on your background (reinstatement > VRA > CTI > OTS) and test score (WQ > Q), but location helps a lot. After you're picked, whether you get in just depends on you not failing a security, medical, or other clearance.

When I put my Geo Pref down for Pubnat7 I selected Texas first and Colorado second. Based on my wife's job it would be more beneficial if we were in Colorado now. Since the window has closed, can I, or would it be wise to call and try to change my first Geo Pref to Colorado and Houston as second? Is this something that could be better accomplished at an interview?

Thanks in advance!

You probably won't be able to change it before the panels. You can't log back into the geographic preferences, and while it certainly wouldn't hurt to call up Aviation Careers to ask if they'll change it for you, they may not be able to (or they might just say no). Can't hurt to take a shot.

Assuming everything goes well and you're selected, you could ask for a change at the interview. Actually getting it done is uncommon, and it's easier to do if it's within the same area -- like how UTAMAV was transferred from Houston Center to D01 (Dallas TRACON). But that's not to say that it's impossible. It'd help to make your case to your HR contact as well. Hitting up as many people as you can only increases the odds of getting it done.

Last idea... figure out who's doing the selections for Texas, and explain your case to them. They may be willing to pass your name to the Colorado selector(s) instead. It's long shot, but it might work. ...maybe.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give the HR contact a call today and see if I can get anything done.

Is it worth calling the place I want to get hired at and just talking to someone and telling them I am interested?

Not really. They have no control whatsoever when it comes to the hiring process, and they often don't even know who does. They might point you towards who does the selections for their facility, but that's something you can address once you get your geographic preferences in order.
