This isn't rocket science. People may or may not like their professions, but they do it for one simple reason. To put money in the bank.

"Enjoyment" has never been given to me by any of my employers as compensation, and I certainly hope it never reaches such a ridiculous level that we are simply compensated because we swear that we "enjoy" what we do.

The flying's great, its living in Alaska for my whole life that kinda sucks. Down here in Juneau is a million times better than anchorage.

121 sucks anyway. Sorry I don't feel like spending 200 nights away from home out of the year.

When I was flying stand-ups, I was only doing 150 nights away from home each year (counting vacation), and I spent the entire days at home. I was just gone for 10-14 hours at a time, three nights a week. Life was good. To me, flying felt like a hobby again, and I didn't even feel like I had a job. Doesn't get much better than that.

To each their own. For me, getting 4 or 5 (max) hours of sleep a night, even if it meant I was home all day all week would make me crazy VERY fast.

See it's not the 4 days of flying or overnights that I'm worried about getting to me. It's the 3-4 nights in Macon, GA or Elmira, NY....etc . Depressing places with crappy hotels.
