Best travel suitcases

Hello All,

I am sick and tired of buying new suitecases every few years. Eventhough they are "guaranteed", they never seen to be repaired well. I would greatly appreciate any advice on what works best for carry on and about 7 days on the road.

Many thanks in advance

Re: Best travel suitecases

I swear by the old skool hard-side Samsonites. I don't even know if they make them anymore...

You can't "stuff" them (hardside), but I could pack for two weeks in the thing. I used it as a stepstool, chair, side table, backrest, built a bed with it with chairs in the JFK crew lounge.... Fantastic piece of luggage. Sometimes the corners would get dented in if a ramper with an attitude got a hold of it, but the dents hammer back out. The factory wheels usually fail pretty quick, get a rollerblade conversion kit and they'll last forEVER and glide along so smooth it's like you're pulling anything behind you at all.

Mine served me well for many years, and it still gets used when (in the rare instance that) I travel.

Purdy Neat Stuff 22" Stealth.
Best bag in the world.

:yeahthat: Got to agree with jtrain, I toted around my purdy neat 22" for six years as an Air Marshal, international and domestic, 5 days a week. Best bag I've ever had. I'm retired now, but I still use it when I travel.

My Sky Pro....was a piece of crap, wheel bearings broke down after about two months and the plastic wheels starting coming apart too.

Alot of guys I fly with have one of these bags, and it seems extremely durable. I have a travelpro and its nice and hasnt fallen apart yet. Although my next one will be one from outermarker.

Its made extremely well. Its balanced amazingly, when you throw on a 30lb flight case and have your bag fully loaded, it feels like your pulling nothing. Plus when you see the way the rampys throw around bags, your glad to know its got a metal frame.

Hello All,

I am sick and tired of buying new suitecases every few years. Eventhough they are "guaranteed", they never seen to be repaired well.

I've been happy with my Briggs and Riley 21" (model U-21G). Lifetime warranty. I sent it back last year, the "repaired" it by replacing about 90% of it. 10 years out of it so far, it has crossed the Atlantic about 100 times, and logged about 3,000,000 miles.

Travelpro is good too, they have them at Costco. Tumi also makes good stuff. Anything less than $200 is going to fall apart.

EDIT: For the Briggs&Riley bags, be sure to get the metal 'hook' for carrying a chart case. The nylon one is a pain, and you will lose it.

I do NOT recommend TravelPro. They do NOT hold up to the abuse of crews, especially regional crews who's bags ride around all day in cargo bins (ala cargo 1 on the ATR). They also do not hold up well being run over by a car, but that I will chalk up to operator error and not necessarily to the quality of the bag itself. (And no, I was not the one who ran over the bag.)

The trick, my dear, is to not work for a regional that makes you put your bags in the cargo bin! ;)Seriously, the PNT metal-framed bags are awesome. However, if you're ever traveling as a paid passenger and have to check your bag, be prepared to spend a lot of money on overweight fees. If you pack for a 4-day trip, there's a good chance that you're gonna be over the 50 pound limit (unless you pack extremely light).Just something to keep in mind!

I love my skyroll (http://www.skyroll.com/), and you can get a look at one in many men's wearhouse stores. They hold a surprising amount of stuff and still fit in the overhead compartment. I have even managed to pull off a 4 day trip with room to spare with mine. I do recommend looking around, since the prices do vary a wee bit.

The only way to roll for me. If those are too pricey, a couple of walmart bags will work in a pinch, not as durable tho.

I bought mine 6 years ago. Its worth its weight in gold. Consider the fact that most bags dont used just a few times a year and last maybe 5 years. I've used this bag 4 days per week for the last 6 years. And hard core use! I"m almost due for another one and I will buy it again.

Re: Best travel suitecases

No Jioke, I had a flight attendant show up for a trip with a full hefty bag. I asked her what she was doing, she said moving.

Re: Best travel suitecases

Yet another vote for the PNS Stealth 22". Mine has been going strong for 4 years taking abuse from rampers in LGA and EWR and all the while saying "is that all you got?" Get the metal frame. I know folks who have gotten the plastic frame and it's about as crappy as the average travelpro...

Re: Best travel suitecases

Anyone still looking for one? I have a friend who was trying to sell me a new one a few months ago. It might be for sale still.

Were you the guy I saw onboard Valujet back in the day? :)
