Possible Mid-Air over Hudson.

I walked through the living room earlier while my dad was watching the news (idk what channel) and some female reporter, anchor, whatever she was, was complaining about how everything having to do with small private planes are unsafe and how that area should be controlled and that money should not be the reason that nothing is being done to improve that area and how if you own a private plane money shouldn't be something that you have to worry about so you should be able to go out and buy whatever it was that she was talking about in order to prevent things like this from happening. I stopped listening past a certain point because she obviously had no idea what she was talking about and was merely just stating her personal opinion on the subject and a lot of her "facts" were way off. Stupid people like her shouldn't be allowed on a news station. I know plenty of people who own planes and don't have a ton of extra money, especially right now the way the economy is. I wanted to reach into the tv and punch her in the face.

To bad you couldnt call in and ask if she would like to double her taxes to pay for all of it? I bet she would !

Money.

I still remember when requiring Mode C transponders within 30 miles of a primary airport of a TCA was outrageously unacceptable.

Yeah, I said TCA! :)

That was a big deal. My Grandpa's place was in that 30 mile veil with MCI and he was pissed only one of his airplanes had a xpndr and one of them didn't have an electrical system at all.

Corey Lidel and his instructor's mistake basically closed down the east river corridor a few years ago. They didn't know the area and shouldn't have been flying. Who knows what will turn up when more info is learned about this piper flying today. You shouldn't fly that area unless you are with someone who is familiar with the call outs for the position reports. There's not much room for error.

Wasn't Lidel the second NY Yankee to die in a private plane accident after Thurman Munson?

She was on Fox News. She sounded surprised that every aircraft flying VFR wasn't under ATC control. Like there are enough controllers for that.

I'll start with an easy one. You know where the first commercial passenger service was started

From what I know, it was a flight across Tampa Bay by Tony Jannus. There is a model of his Benoist XIV hanging in the baggage claim of KPIE.

Stupid Fox News reporter woman (live):

"....The other aircraft, possibly a Piper PA-32, has had 10 accidents in the last 10 years. I'm not an expert, but that doesn't sound like a plane I'd feel safe flying in......"

:banghead:

That's right so keep your irrelevant and misinformed opinions about aviation to yourself you twit.(the reporter not Mike D)

One chick she interviewed blamed the whole thing on AOPA, claiming they're opposed to aviation safety and are "just out to make money"

Yea. Really. I wonder how many times the type of car she drives has been in accidents. Does she still think it's a safe car to drive?

Man this one really stinks. I do that tour all the time and now all this hype might just be a silver bullet to kill all the manhattan tour business. All of the local papers are calling for a ban, schumerbag is calling it a safety and security risk. I have to start writing these senators and congress folk because they're going to take the wounded industry and spread a dump truck of salt over it.

Did you really expect anything other from the nutbags that sit behind a desk and know zilch about flying? And Schumer... completely expected behavior from a guy so insecure he does a REAL bad comb-over.

Here in ATL, the numbnuts in the AJC had an article about Tara Field, the airport adjacent to the race track. The writer said the airfield was too short to be safe but jets routinely land there. ?? The commissioner said that (GASP) airplanes actually take off with less than full fuel tanks.

I don't know what bothers me more.. the know-nothings writing this stuff or the appointed/elected officials on various committes and that are dumber than a bag of hammers.

99.9% of the time the system works and the 0.1% of the time it doesn't it makes front page and that is just too enticing. There are plenty out there who ardently believe that with enough rules and enough regulations we can have a perfect and safe world. And they are ready to take YOUR freedoms (and money) in that quest.

Jynxy, don't be hate'n on my Yankees.

A Rod: $275 million
Teixiera: $180 million
Sabathia: $161 million

Sweeping the Red Sox last night in a four game series:

PRICELESS!

You forgot Jeter (21.6M), A.J. Burnett (16.5M), Rivera (15M), and Posada, Damon, Matsui (13M Each). These are 2009 salaries. The Yankee's payroll is only a little over three times the Rays.

Yep, amazing what you can afford when you charge $12.50 for a beer at the stadium.
