Has anyone completed the comm/cfi at Dutch in Houston? That looks like a good deal on both. $1170 for 12 hrs flight and instruction. That gets you everything. Do most pass the CR after only 12 hrs?
 
I have trained several CSEL initials at DutchWings. Train Fri/Sat/Sun and take your checkride on Sunday evening or Monday morning. Have the long cross country, night tower landings and your written complete when you show up.

I took my checkride after about 14 hours? but I also took a break after the first 5...I came back a few months later did 9 hours in 2 weeks and took the ride. Just know your Ground school stuff ahead of time, the maneuvers aren't that hard.
 
I did most of my Comm Multi at Dutch Wings, but then the plane broke. They have a great set-up, and it seems to be one of the rare schools out there that get you done on schedule. Todd and Wim were both great.
 
Sounds like a bargain, I spent 2300 for 12 hours of piper arrow time. That is NOT including the extra 350 for the examiner. I got ripped...

When I can afford to get the 13.6 hrs of multi PIC...

I should have taken your advice and gotten my double I in the twin - 2 birds, 1 stone.

I have a couple of leads on cheap/free multi time, but I'm not so sure how they will pan out.

What are you up to at the moment?
 
Understood regarding cash flow. We will be here whenever you're ready.

I am flying Corporate and Instructing as much as I can. I will be in your neck of the woods in the next month or so to get my Hawker type. Then I will be saving money to get my SEL/SES ATP add on here at DWH.
 
I am planning on doing my commercial at DW. However, all of my time is in a 172. Will the low wing Arrow give me problems trying to land. since I ahve no time in a low wing, is it still possible to finish this program in 12 hrs????????????????????
 
I have never had a problem with anyone transitioning to the Arrow. It lands a little different than a Cessna but it's nothing you cant overcome. Most of the CSEL's I have done in the Arrow transitioned out of Cessnas. Don't let it intimidate you. Currency is much more important than time in make/model.

I have never had anyone go over 12 hours for a CSEL.

Show up with your long solo cross country , 10 night solo takeoff/landings at a control tower airport and your written done and you can finish in 3 days.

Not much, wife just had a baby on Tuesday so I am laying low at the house for the moment.

Flying at KAXH is a little slow while they resurface the runway. That finishes up mid September at which time I hope to pick up a few Primary students in the Citabria.

Going to the arrow isn't hard. Just expect to have a flatter landing and not being able to glide when the power is pulled.

I found the arrow easier to fly. It is kind of like going from a mini van into a monster truck. Point it at the numbers and when you get to them a slight pull back and she plants her roots. Hot days can give some float though if you have the speed up. Low wing versus high wing, the low wing will get closer to the ground, thus experiencing more drag reduction from ground effect.

As for the 12 hours, I am completely against setting a time for completion. Everyone learns at different rates, I don't care how perfect your program is.

Not setting a completion time just stating that I have never seen anyone that was current and dedicated need more than 12 hours. Bottom line, you don't get signed off until you are ready.
