Not complaining...I am just making an observation. I fly for the government and am quite happy doing so. Not interested in joining the race.
Sorry RD...maybe a better place to post it is at airliners.net...it's just flame bait around here. Thing about how many furloughed pilots are on this board.
And I wasn't going after you, just this place in general.
And, RD did get the picture from A.net. I'm very sure of that, and they seem to have about the same demeanor about the whole thing as what has been said here.

Oh Col Kurtz, now that was one twisted S0B. He did to the human body what BB and TH do to good airlines.
Maybe it's because there IS something wrong with it. I'm not talking about the rudder or the paint, but the spirit of the situation -- what this picture represents. Aside from the fact that many of the Midex-ers probably have more time running the APU than some of the folks have time at RAH, they've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, had the crp scared out of them selves TEN TO TWENTY YEARS ago -- long before these RAH folks who snicker "Dude! We get a cooler, bigger plane AND more flying!" on their way home to their parent's basements even started flying lessons. (Holy run on sentence, Batman!)
No this doesn't apply to all, but the SITUATION sucks like Ol Milwaukee. Just don't be nieve enough to post something like that and NOT expect to get people riled up. This picture represent the demise of not only peoples' lives (QOL: life with spouse/kids, at home, ability to pay bills) not mention a beloved profession.

Business is business. As another thread on here is going on. A business isn't there to give things to the employee's; they're there to make a profit. The company decided the path it was going down wasn't profitable, and decided to act. They gave the people who were already working at Midwest a chance to fix the problem, and they were laughed at. So, the business did what they needed to do to keep the shareholders happy, and try to make them profitable.
The Republic pilot's had nothing to do with the contracts. The only pilots to blame should be the Midwest pilots, because they were not willing to work to save their jobs.

The Midwest management's SOP is to stack the deck so that the company can blame somebody else and take the heat off themselves. This was no different.
Business is business. I agree, but the pilot playing CEO had no place running an airline, but does have a future as a used car salesman. He sold a bill of goods to the Midwest employees, the people of Milwaukee, and the state of Wisconsin. Do a little more research on jsonline.com, read what has been posted on this an other boards about the last 3 years at Midwest (pre-AAI bid, the bid, TH's reaction, and his plea to NWA to buy him out), then try to make an informed decision.
Your posts smack of a RAH-we-rock-you-suck cheerleader who has not looked into what is really going on.

Willing to work to save their jobs? I think they were all willing to work and fly the contract that they had agreed to. In fact I'm sure they'd all be thrilled to do that job. They were in between a rock and a hard place because another airline exists that will "fill in" with their crews that will work for significantly less than the Midwest contract. That other airline was stage left and right ready to step in.
Chitacqua coming in does not guarantee profitability. Sure having low paid crews helps, but in the end will people still want to fly on Midwest? Will Midwest's stellar customer service take a hit as Chitacqua takes over and guts the company? They're going into uncharted territory but as is the case in aviation more often than not, things don't go as planned. Again, hopefully Southwest and or Airtran can step up and offer a superior product putting an end to this.

Wow, I'm sure some of my colleagues that were furloughed from YX would certainly beg to differ.

While YX management sold the employees down the river (ripped a page from HK's TSA/GJ negotiation strategy), and it sucks that they are out of jobs, let's not forget some things.
Not all that long ago, YX was a "stepping stone" job to get the "valuable jet time" to get onto a "major" before the regionals had turbojets (Well, except for Horizon - they rode the F28 for a long time). The pay wasn't all that great, and the idea was get your time, and get out. Forget about the pay.
As a matter of fact, I have heard first hand from several people that did that at YX. One of which is at FedEx now.
I think it's intellectually dishonest to pretend that YX was a "career stop", and RAH is the devil. Any study of recent, within 10 years, would prove that YX was just that.
Both airlines were used as a means to an end in the career path. And as the industry evolved, and pay scales increased, both airlines have become a final stop for the top end of the seniority list.
Have we learned a long term lesson from this evolution? I don't think so. There are airlines now flying airplanes with a greater seating capacity than the 50-seat wave and can fly a similar route structure, yet are being paid even lower wages than 50 seat jets due to the type of air mass accelerator attached to the power section.

YX may have been a stepping stone at one time (and I think that's debatable) just as Republic is considered a stepping stone now, but what you are missing is that YX made it. They managed to transform themselves from a regional player to something that was considered a Major, with a pay scale (almost) to match. And yet, somehow, they managed to get dragged back down to the regional level of Republic and all of us other sorry ass RJ drivers.
Personally I won't go down the road of Republic pilots are destroying the industry (despite having to listen to one complain that they were going to a mainline get and we were going to an express gate so we should wait for them this evening in CLT). However, Republic (as a company) has destroyed a Major Airline. End of story.
Is it possible that *someday* Republic will themselves become a Major (with Major like work rules and pay)? Maybe. THAT will depend on the testicular fortitude of the pilot group. I'd like to say I'm optimistic but I just don't know.
