More Furloughs to come @ Comair...

Some bits and pieces from our company Memo today...

"This year, we do expect to see even deeper cuts in the schedule and utilization beginning in September. During September, we expect to fly 20 percent fewer block hours than we will in August. For example, we expect to go from an average of 500 flights a day in August to 400 flights a day in September. These changes are driven by an overall reduction in JFK activity including less morning bank activity, consolidation of mid-day activity and elimination of the late evening bank."

"Based on what we know today, additional furloughs among our crews will be unavoidable. In the coming weeks, our crew forecasting team will be looking closely at the schedule to determine the optimal staffing levels needed to support that schedule."

We currently have 296 Pilots on Furlough. The number for additional furloughs being thrown around right now is 120, but that is not official. I truly believe Comair will end up furloughing half of its Pilot group.

This truly sucks. Go Delta. This merger has been AWESOME. :sarcasm:

Pinnacle is also touting the deep cuts in our block hours starting in September. The way everyone is making it sound, Delta's cutting enough flying to make every flight oversold.

Same here at ASA. Saying the same thing about Delta cutting hours this winter, asking for Long-Term LOA.

Industry SUCKS!

The amount of flying Delta wanted to hand Mesaba was enough to put us out of business in a couple months. At least if you believe the DO. We had to go back begging for more hours.

I personally believe if Pinnacle can, they'll park all your planes, not hand them over to Mesaba or Mesa or anyone else. Just plain park them.

Right now, they're going with LOAs still, AND "reduced availability" lines. Although the RA lines are pretty sweet. You can even still do outside flying.

The joke around the lounge is that whenever you talk about how skippity-doo-dah the merger is going, you preface the sentence with "From what I can see from my office desk..."

My dad told me today, "Ya know, I can't figure out what the hell these guys are doing."

He's just a customer obviously (refuses to non-rev, wants to support big brother out of principal), but he's not been impressed.

While I regret that I can not reveal my source, this is exactly the motivation behind the deep cuts DCI wide.

Expect the holiday season to be a mess . . . for the passengers. Who, afterall, we really don't care for.

Heh.

I admit I have a certain bit of animosity toward the passengers.

When you say outside flying you mean out of base?

Actually, no. Outside period. If you've got a business on the side that does something like ag flying, sightseeing, jumpers or whatever, you can do it on the RA line. You just have to tell scheduling how many hours you've flown before you come back. At least, that's how it reads on the policy memo that came out. They're even revising the FOM to reflect it. So, if you're an FO that can make more flipping burgers than flying airplanes, it's actually a pretty sweet deal. I'm thinking of bidding for one just to take half a month off from the abuse. It reduces your guarantee by half, but if you're on RSV, you only work 10 days a month, and they CANNOT JM or extend you.

Hopefully, it'll do the trick and keep us from having to downgrade or furlough. From the way things are going right now, it's like we're already staffed for the cut backs, but we've got summer flying numbers. ATL is a bit different. I'm actually surprised they haven't displaced guys out of ATL unless there's a crew to aircraft ratio the have to keep per the Delta agreement.

Wow!

I've been trying to line up a second job (part time) hasn't been going so well. If your FO's are doing it no problem I need to step up my game.

Why? Would you rather they just take their money, and give it to somebody else?

Nope. I certainly wouldn't. I personally have a door between myself and them so it's not they actually see me that much. I'm tired of my FA's being treated like crap, as well as the gate agents, all because 90% of the pax can't understand their rock bottom price doesn't come with unlimited service nor my patience to listen to insane requests on their part.

The one that always comes to mind, and makes the hall of fame, is the time I listened to pax bitch at a gate agent because they wouldn't charter a helicopter from LGA to BOS for that $250 ticket.

Second on the list is the woman in ALB who told my Captain that he didn't know what he was talking about when LGA was slowing arrivals for weather (3 hour ground stop). My response to her was, "your right, what would he know about it, he's just an airline pilot. I mean you've got a nifty cell phone, obviously thats where all the answers come from". I had to sit in time out for that one.

Is this an insane request?

Wanting a 777 w/ Business Class for service between Augusta, GA and Atlanta, GA?

Oh yeah, I heard it.

RJ service into RKD (Rockland Maine)

I should add, that particular idiot had this thought because Nantucket did afterall, and they were just a tiny island.
